Last season’s Champions League semifinals were a romantic’s dream. Such was the scale of the attacking ambitions of the last four clubs remaining that almost all of the tournament’s top providers were on display: With five assists each, Ajax’s Dušan Tadić and the Barcelona duo of Luis Suárez and Jordi Alba finished as joint-leaders (along with Manchester City’s Leroy Sané). Just behind them with four assists was Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
This season, Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech is the current leader with five, although he’ll finish with no more after his club’s dramatic exit at the group stage. There are already three players with four assists each: Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, City’s Riyad Mahrez and Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso.
Compiled here are the 10 best Champions League assists in 2019 (combining last season’s knockout stages and this year’s group stage), and you’ll see efforts from many of the aforementioned players along with appearances from players that dominated the calendar year (Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk).
