Hirving “Chucky” Lozano signed with PSV Eindhoven last June looking to cement his growing reputation in Europe and follow in the footsteps of players like Arjen Robben, Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum — all former PSV talents that honed their skills there before moving to some of Europe’s biggest clubs. With a goal against Heracles on Sunday, the 22-year-old Mexican winger has now scored seven goals in his first seven Eredivisie matches, making him the top scorer in the Dutch top flight.
Lozano is averaging a goal every 80 minutes while he’s also added two assists for his club. Of the 21 shots he’s attempted, he’s landed 12 on target (57% accuracy) while burying seven chances. PSV’s Player of the Month for August, Lozano’s red card against Heerenveen back on September 10 is the only blemish in an otherwise perfect start for the former Pachuca man.
PSV has opened a five-point gap at the top of the table over Ajax and Lozano’s goals have gone a long way toward making that happen. Although Lozano signed a contract with PSV through the 2022-23 season, it’s a certainty that clubs in the Premier League and La Liga are keeping close tabs on Chucky’s rapid development.
