It was, perhaps, the worst goal call of all time. And it unfortunately came on the match winner as Algeria won its second-ever Africa Cup of Nations title. 

Proving once again that it’s better to have announcers in the stadium, a clueless beIN Sports announcer seemed to have no idea the game-winning goal had gone in when Baghdad Bounedjah scored to give Algeria a 1-0 win over Senegal on Friday in Cairo. 

It was a day of high drama at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Semifinal action began with an extra time encounter between Senegal and Tunisia — decided by a calamitous own goal — and it continued through the evening with an Algeria-Nigeria clash that was settled at the final second of regular time.

Senegal has advanced to its first Africa Cup of Nations final in 19 years after defeating Tunisia 1-0 after extra time in Cairo, Egypt. Both sides had chances to seal victory in regular time with penalties, but the goalkeepers came up big to send the match to an additional 30. From there, it was a comedic own goal that proved the difference.

The Telegraph has reported that Qin Liang, the England vs Cameroon referee, twice ignored VAR advice in order to prevent the Cameroonian team from walking out during the game.

The first instance was Fran Kirby’s penalty appeal, in which Kirby was taken down with a high challenge in the box by a Cameroonian defender.

England’s 3-0 defeat of Cameroon in the Women’s World Cup Round of 16 today will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons. The match threatened to descend into chaos on a number of occasions, and it left the players and managers of both nations fuming, albeit for very different reasons. 

The opening goal from today’s Women’s World Cup Round of 16 match between England and Cameroon was an epic tale involving back passes, indirect free kicks and saliva. Yeah, that kind of goal. 

The story begins in the 12th minute, when Cameroon’s Augustine Ejangue cushioned a cross straight towards her own goalkeeper. Instead of clearing it, Annette Ngo Ndom picked it up, putting Cameroon in violation of the back-pass rule. 

Cat Whitehill probably shouldn’t announce again this Women’s World Cup.

The FOX commentator made multiple racist remarks when calling Nigeria’s 3-0 loss to Germany in the round of 16 on FS1, apparently clueless as to the offensive nature of her words.

It did not go unnoticed.
