Werner’s Miss From 6 Yards Bailed Out By Last-Minute Giroud Header; Chelsea Advances To Knockout Stages

Chelsea became the first team to officially book a ticket for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League after a dramatic 2-1 victory against Rennes.

After defeating Rennes handily 20 days ago, the Blues looked to pick up right where they left off against the French underdogs. Chelsea should have taken the lead in the opening five minutes after Timo Werner had a golden opportunity. Chelsea’s $60 million man instead decided to generously give the International Space Station a souvenir.

Chronicles Of The Crest: Chelsea FC

With a prominent badge recognized around the world, the history of Chelsea FC is very rich.

Starting in 1905, the team's logo featured a man in an army headdress.

The image was borrowed from the Royal Hospital Chelsea, where veterans of the British army were treated.

From 1952-1953 while the team awaited a new logo, a monogram of the letters "CFC" was used. In 1953, the new logo was complete.

It featured a blue lion taken from the family coat of arms of the Earl Cadogan Club.

In 1986, Ken Bates, the new owner, simplified and madernized the logo.

Tottenham Welcomes Man City To Hotspur Stadium In Match With Early Title Implications

There was a perception of Tottenham Hotspur under Mauricio Pochettino that they lacked the self-belief to win silverware and there was plenty of evidence to support that view.

Two near misses in the Premier League title race, FA Cup semifinal losses and then, when glory beckoned, a rather timid Champions League final defeat by Liverpool.

Sam Kerr still had the opportunity to win it for Chelsea in stoppage time, but her lob drifted wide to spare Arsenal keeper Manuela Zinsberger any further embarrassment.

Which EFL Championship Stars Are Ready To Make The Jump To The Premier League?

The talent pipeline from the EFL Championship has always been strong, and in recent years it has consistently produced some top-level stars.

Dalbert’s nightmare on Stamford Street began in the 10th minute when he tripped up Timo Werner in the penalty area. The Rennes defender was shown a yellow card and could only watch as the German striker buried the penalty kick.
