It's official: Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay submit joint bid for hosting 2030 World Cup

Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay officially submitted a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup on Tuesday, calling for the tournament to return "where football was born" 100 years after the first World Cup was held in Montevideo.

During a ceremony at the Argentine Football Association (AFA), officials of the four countries were joined by Alejandro Dominguez, president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), who said that he hopes FIFA can show a "gesture of greatness" toward the region and allow it to organize the tournament.

Concacaf and CONMEBOL announced the signing of a strategic partnership that will bring the 2024 Copa América to the United States and more. The partnership was put in place in an effort to strengthen the two regions.

The agreement includes three major tournaments: the 2024 Copa América (hosted in the U.S.), the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup (hosted in the U.S.) and a new club competition featuring a “final four” format.

CAS points out the use of false information in Byron Castillo's case but confirms Ecuador's spot in Qatar

Ecuador will play at this year's World Cup in Qatar after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Tuesday said Byron Castillo, whom Chile claimed was ineligible to play during the qualifiers, was deemed an Ecuadorean national.

Ecuador will, however, get a three-point deduction at the start of the qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup and must also pay a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs ($101,600) for the "use of a document containing false information", CAS said.

Chile and Perú are making one last attempt to steal Ecuador's World Cup spot

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered an appeal by the Chilean football federation (FFCH) against FIFA's decision to allow Ecuador to play at the World Cup despite allegations they fielded an ineligible player, it said on Friday.

World governing body FIFA earlier this month dismissed an appeal in the case of Ecuadorean player Byron Castillo, who Chile had alleged was ineligible to play in qualifying since he was born in Colombia.
