Brandon Vazquez saves USMNT from Jamaica upset in Gold Cup opener with 88th-minute equalizer

Brandon Vázquez came off the bench to score in the 88th minute as the U.S. men's national team salvaged a 1-1 draw with upset-minded Jamaica on Saturday in the first match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in Chicago.

Vázquez, of FC Cincinnati, entered six minutes earlier and was in the right spot in front of the goal when a Jesús Ferreira cross deflected off Jamaican defender Dexter Lembikisa.

BJ Callaghan appointed as USMNT coach following Anthony Hudson's unexpected exit

Anthony Hudson has stepped down from his role as interim manager of the U.S. men's national team and will be replaced by his assistant B.J. Callaghan while a search for a permanent head coach is underway, the U.S. Soccer Federation said on Tuesday.

Hudson, 42, was appointed interim manager in January but has decided to leave for a new opportunity. Previous manager Gregg Berhalter's contract expired at the end of 2022 shortly after he guided the United States to the last 16 at the World Cup.

Tim Ream breaks arm against Manchester City

Fulham captain Tim Ream's season ended prematurely on Sunday as he suffered a broken arm in the 2-1 home defeat by Manchester City in the Premier League.

The American defender, who conceded a penalty to allow City's Erling Haaland to score early on, fell awkwardly after slipping and went off with his arm in a makeshift sling.

"It looked clear Tim Ream will not play for us this season, broken his arm," Fulham manager Marco Silva said.

Concacaf 2023 Gold Cup groups – Here are the USMNT, México and Canada rivals

The USMNT already know the path to defend their Gold Cup title.

In a ceremony hosted in So-Fi Stadium, California, Concacaf completed the group-stage draw for the 2023 edition of the tournament.

What's ahead for the U.S.? Matches against Jamaica, Nicaragua and a third opponent to be determined from a series of games involving Curaçao, St. Kitts & Nevis, French Guiana and Sint Maarten. More on that below.

The tournament will be played between June 16 and July 16 and will have the following groups:

With the countdown to the 2026 World Cup now underway, this summer's Gold Cup — now just 75 days away — takes on an added significance with CONCACAF rivals the United States, Mexico and Canada all aiming for regional supremacy. 

The Gold Cup begins on June 24 and ends with the final on July 16 at SoFi Stadium in California. On Monday, CONCACAF announced the 14 other venues that'll host the 16 teams attempting to claim the region's crown (including invited guest Qatar).
