The Bundesliga Is Your Year-Long World Cup Primer

The English Premier League, La Liga and Liga MX may be more popular in America than the Bundesliga, but the German league deserves your attention, this year more than ever. The Bundesliga is essentially a year-long World Cup primer.

The Bundesliga features everything that will decide the 2018 World Cup in Russia. If you want the knowledge to impress your friends when the rest of them decide to pay attention to soccer next summer, follow the Bundesliga this season.

Here’s what you should know about the 2017-18 Bundesliga season and, by extension, the 2018 World Cup.

Source Confirms Christian Pulisic Will Reflect On Year At The End Of The Year

For those of you wondering whether or not Christian Pulisic is rational and capable of completing basic mental exercises, an unnamed ESPN FC source has confirmed that in about 365 days, Pulisic will have been provided with an additional 365 days of experience from which to reminisce and reflect on, and he will do that.

The Europa League Is Just As Good As The Champions League, In Terms Of Funny Own Goals

On Tuesday, Swiss club Young Boys scored an excruciating last-minute own goal to lose 1-0 to CSKA Moscow in a Champions League playoff. On Thursday, Turkish club Fenerbahce showed the Europa League's standard of own goal is just as high as the Champions League's.

How To Cope With Knowing Real Madrid Are Going To Win La Liga

Real Madrid are going to win La Liga. It's better to come to terms with this now so you can actually enjoy the season. If you go into the season thinking someone else might have a chance and Real Madrid open up a 10-point lead by Christmas, you are going to be disappointed. So ward off the disappointment. Barcelona are depleted and Atletico Madrid are plucky but outgunned. Real Madrid are going to win La Liga.

This is fine! Lots of people enjoy the Bundesliga even though they know Bayern Munich are going to win. You can still enjoy the season even if you know how it ends already.

Hilarious Disconnect Can’t Stop England’s Gorilla From Dominating Day 2 At FIFA Interactive World Cup

Like Winston Churchill in the face of endless hordes of German bombers, Gorilla is England’s great hope against three German competitors in semifinals of the FIFA Interactive World Cup, which was apparently trying to reenact the Battle of Britain on Thursday in London.

Despite a disconnection in the first leg of the Xbox One division final, Gorilla took a stunning 6-0 lead into Friday’s second leg against CodyDerFinisher of Germany. In the PlayStation 4 final, Deto leads TimoX 1-0 after the first leg in an all-German affair.

Lionel Messi Still Hasn't Signed His New Contract

Lionel Messi has agreed to sign a new contract with Barcelona, but Messi has not actually signed said contract yet.

This is obviously not good for Barcelona, who have to deal with the fallout from Neymar's transfer. Messi's current deal runs out after this season, but Barcelona have always maintained Messi would stay at the Camp Nou. It seemed like that was a certainty when La Pulga's new deal was announced earlier in the summer, to be officially signed when Messi showed up for pre-season training.

Like Debating Politics On Facebook, Everton’s Fantastic Signings Won’t Accomplish Anything

Few teams have spent money during this offseason as wisely as Everton. Few teams will see transfers make a smaller effect than Everton. Like the popular vote in a U.S. presidential election, it just won’t matter.

The Toffees turned the expected sale of Romelu Lukaku into a number of marquee signings, breaking the club transfer fee record a couple times. Everton set the record again with the signing of Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson on Wednesday.

It’d Be Disrespectful To Say Neymar-Less Barcelona Are Even Close To Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s 5-1 aggregate victory over Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup wasn’t a Real marker, it was a proclamation: player for player, this is the strongest squad in the history of the game. No player on Real Madrid is irreplaceable, every player on Real Madrid is valued because they’re sensational.

John Brooks Will Not Be Available For The Remainder Of World Cup Qualifying

The USMNT's World Cup qualification margin for error just got that much smaller, with the news that center back John Brooks would be out for the remainder of qualification. Brooks sustained a thigh injury during a friendly while playing for Wolfsburg in Germany.
