FIFA Video Game

I’ve been playing FIFA for more than two decades — probably longer than many of you have been alive. These days I don’t count the years by birthdays or anniversaries but by FIFA updates. So when I sat down to do this FIFA 19 review, I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting into.

The tale of rags to riches is one that features heavily in sporting narratives and none more so than in football. Players who come from nothing have taken the world by storm, like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. 

To continue with the rags to riches story, we’ve applied that concept to FIFA. Being stuck as a bronze player on Ultimate Team is more of a humiliation than not being in the game, but when a player makes it all the way to being a gold player, you know they’ve done just fine.

With FIFA 19 hitting stores on September 28 (unless you pre-order the Champions Edition or Ultimate Edition, in which case you can play three days before all of the peasants), anticipation is at an all-time high.

As with every year, the new release of FIFA is a big deal in the soccer community. No sport more closely identifies with its video game counterpart than soccer, and this year’s edition will be no different. EA Sports announced Friday it’s going all out to give gamers the authentic LaLiga experience, but a look at some of the FIFA 19 stadiums reveals one major venue was left out.

FIFA 19 will add 16 new stadiums and more than 200 new headscans just for LaLiga. Here’s a hype video/trailer to get you excited to play as a Ronaldo-less Real Madrid.

People buy the new FIFA games each year for a number of reasons. It might be the new modes (this year has plenty of awesome kick-off modes), the chance to rep as Alex Hunter in The Journey or to play with new players and kits.
