18-year-old Gavi destroys Real Madrid in Supercopa final on ABC

The Supercopa de España took center stage Sunday with casual American viewers probably wondering what in the hell this match meant during its afternoon broadcast on ABC.

Yes, it's a supreme money grab in Saudi Arabia at an obtuse time in the season, but a Clásico is a Clásico — they're all memorable, even if they're part of the International Champions Cup and staged in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Not even the global TV feed going down could save Spurs against superior Arsenal

LONDON - Leaders Arsenal put on a masterclass to overwhelm shell-shocked north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 away and extend the gap at the top of the Premier League to eight points on Sunday.

The Gunners flew out of the blocks from the opening whistle and built a first-half lead through a clumsy own goal by Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris and a sublime strike from Martin Ødegaard.

Bizarre scenes: Mitrović PK disallowed after striker manages the impossible

The two surprise packages of the Premier League season met at St James' Park on Sunday with Newcastle United and Fulham both challenging for the European places.

Newcastle was looking to improve on scoreless draws against Leeds United and Arsenal, but they ran into Tim Ream and couldn't craft a clear opening in the first half. Then, against the run of play, Fulham earned a penalty with just over 20 minutes remaining in the match.

Chelsea's Sam Kerr silences 47,000 Arsenal supporters with 89th-minute equalizer

LONDON - Sam Kerr scored an 89th-minute equalizer to snatch a point for Chelsea as they drew 1-1 with Arsenal in the Women's Super League on Sunday to maintain their three-point lead over the Gunners at the top of the table.

With 46,811 tickets sold for the clash at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, Chelsea's Zećira Mušović was the busier of the two goalkeepers, pulling off a string of superb reflex saves to keep her team in it as the home side dominated.

Fútbol fail of the weekend: Roger Martínez denies América's first win of the season with horrible last-minute miss

Roger Martínez has half-assed his last five years playing for América and it's come to the point where it's not even surprising to see him pull moments like this every other week.

Toluca and América faced off in the second matchday of the Liga MX Clausura at the Nemesio Diez stadium Saturday night and gave us a classic match between the two — counter attacks, skills, amazing goalkeeper saves and, most importantly, goals.

Brighton smashes three past lackluster Liverpool and sit just outside of top five

BRIGHTON — Brighton & Hove Albion winger Solly March netted twice early in the second half and set up another goal in a 3-0 home win over a sluggish Liverpool on Saturday that lifts them above the Reds to seventh in the Premier League standings.

The victory was Brighton's first over Liverpool in the top flight and they deserved to take all three points once March helped them convert their dominance in possession into goals.

Controversial comeback sees Red Devils win Manchester Derby with late Marcus Rashford goal

MANCHESTER — In-form Marcus Rashford scored a late winner as Manchester United came from behind to beat rivals Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday, dragging Erik ten Hag's rejuvenated side back into the Premier League title race sooner than anyone expected.

England forward Rashford completed the turnaround eight minutes from time to score for the seventh successive match in all competitions, the first United player to do so since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.

João Félix makes Chelsea debut, fails to score several chances and then gets straight red card

When Chelsea signed Portuguese talent João Félix from Atlético Madrid on loan I don’t think they imagined his debut would have gone as poorly as it did during Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Fulham on Wednesday.

Félix joined the Blues just 30 hours before he was given his first start. With Christian Pulisic, Raheem Sterling and a litany of injuries plaguing the Blues they really didn’t have a choice.

There were glimpses of talent from the 23-year-old as he recorded six shots and four on target. His finishing wasn’t up to snuff but at least he was creating chances.

No World Cup hangover for Messi — Argentine scores in first game back for PSG

24 days after lifting the World Cup, Lionel Messi made his return to the pitch as league-leading PSG welcomed last-place Angers to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

With Kylian Mbappé not returning to training until Thursday, PSG manager Christophe Galtier started Messi and Neymar out wide with 20-year-old French striker Hugo Ekitiké leading the line and Fabián Ruiz joining the attack from midfield.

Before the match, PSG players warmed up in shirts paying tribute to Pelé and there was a minute's applause before kick-off.

Southampton stuns Man City with two golazos to dump defending Premier League champs out of EFL Cup

SOUTHAMPTON — Defending Premier League champions Manchester City crashed out of the League Cup after suffering a shock 2-0 defeat at struggling Southampton in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Southampton, bottom of the Premier League table, scored twice in the first half through Sekou Mara and Moussa Djenepo and City never seriously threatened to get back into the match.
