Edinson Cavani Gifts Manchester United’s Legendary No. 7 Back To Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo will wear Manchester United's famous number seven jersey once again following his return to Old Trafford, the Premier League club said on Thursday.

The 36-year-old Portuguese forward spent six seasons at United between 2003-09, winning eight major trophies, and rejoined them this week from Juventus on a two-year deal.

Ronaldo donned the number seven shirt during his first stint at the club, following in the footsteps of great United players including George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.

As Troy Deeney Departs Watford, His Legacy Extends Well Past His Playoff Goal vs. Leicester

After 419 appearances and 140 goals for Watford, Troy Deeney is announcing his departure from the club. His playing career is not over though, as he joined Birmingham on a free transfer — a fitting move since Deeney has a Blues badge tattooed on his calf, a tribute to his favorite club in the city in which he grew up.

There’s No Spectacle In Sports Quite Like Players Fighting Their Own Fans

One of the greatest stories in sports right now belongs to Major League Baseball, where the New York Mets have collapsed throughout August to piss away a spot in the playoffs. The fans at Citi Field in Queens have voiced their displeasure by booing the players, but players have responded by jeering their own fans.

After hitting a home run last Sunday, Javier Báez gave the fans a double thumbs-down gesture when crossing the plate — an action that was repeated by teammates Francisco Lindor and Kevin Pillar.

Bayern Signing Sabitzer From Leipzig Is Prime Example Why Bundesliga Will Never Be Exciting — I’ll Explain

Bayern Munich wrapped up the summer transfer window by signing RB Leipzig ace Marcel Sabitzer for $18.8 million on Monday. One look at a Bayern transfer history sheet shows that the club buying rival players isn't anything new.

From Campos To Rimando, Who Are The Best Short Goalkeepers Of All Time?

They say size doesn't matter, but with the modern men's goalkeeping landscape populated by giants like Manuel Neuer (6-4), Gianluigi Donnarumma (6-5) and Thibaut Courtois (6-7), 6-2 is almost considered the minimum height for a professional goalkeeper in the modern age.

A few players, like Yann Sommer (6-0) and Jordan Pickford (6-1) buck this trend, but it is increasingly rare to see a men's keeper under 6-0, much less one who is 5-8 or 5-9.

The MLS Skills Challenge Was Enjoyable, But It Failed To Showcase One Position: Goalkeepers

An unapologetically American league, MLS has always set out to be different from European soccer competitions, and the All-Star Weekend Skills Challenge is no different.

Including such events as the most powerful shot, soccer tennis and an Olympico corner kick challenge, the skills challenge was played from 1998 until 2001 and provided a unique flavor to what can often be a dull All-Star Game.

The competition took a hiatus for nearly two decades before returning in 2019 with noticeably tamer events and even less focus on one position group in particular: goalkeepers.

The Story Behind The Worst (Best?) Photo In MLS History

Brek Shea shirtless, jeans barely hanging on to the footballer’s chiseled abs. A model in lingerie, eyes glassy like she just ate too much Thanksgiving dinner. And a baby donkey, half-asleep and half-aware of the brunette stroking its neck.

It is, perhaps, the greatest photo in MLS history. I’ll also accept worst photo of all time.

The above photo conjures so many questions.

Germany And Bayern Munich Legend Gerd Müller Dies At The Age Of 75

Germany great Gerd Müller, widely regarded as one of the game's greatest goal scorers and nicknamed "Der Bomber”, has died at the age of 75, his former club Bayern Munich said on Sunday.

Müller scored 68 goals in 62 international games for West Germany, including the winner in the 1974 World Cup final, and is third in the all-time list of most goals in the competition with 14 goals behind Ronaldo (15) and Miroslav Klose (16).

He also won the European championship in 1972 with them.

USMNT Climbs To Highest FIFA Ranking Since 2006 — And Yes, It Matters

The U.S. men’s national team is reaching levels we haven’t seen in 15 years, rising 10 spots in the latest FIFA rankings. Hopefully this current crop handles its high ranking better than the 2006 squad.

The Ridiculous But Absolutely True Story Of How The USMNT Won Two Medals At One Olympics

In this edition of The18 Untold, we examine the USMNT’s performance at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St Louis. The tournament remains the United States’ crowning achievement as the only time it medalled, but the U.S. actually managed to take home both the silver and bronze.
