Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have proven once more that they are not only great on the field, but also off it. Both stars have reached out to express their solidarity with and condolences to Mexico with regards to the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck central Mexico last Tuesday.
In the last week, many in the football world have come together in the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit Mexico. It’s a wonderful to see soccer fans everywhere unite to help in the recovery process for Mexico, one of the world’s most devoted soccer nations. But it’s important to not forget about Puerto Rico.
It’s been nearly 15 years since Marvin Lee last took a breath on this planet. Once a captain of the Trinidad and Tobago youth national team, Lee died at the age of 21 at his home in Arima after suffering a career-ending neck injury from a collision with U.S. legend Landon Donovan two years earlier.
In 2001, Trinidad and Tobago was at its footballing zenith, ranked No. 25 in the world, the highest it would ever get. Marvin Lee was a defender on the U-20 squad. Some of his teammates would go on to take the Soca Warriors to their first and only World Cup appearance in 2006.
Rafa Márquez has rejoined Atlas after a month’s separation. Early in August, Márquez’s name was featured on a Specially Designated Nationals list by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
In that report, Márquez was accused of using several of his businesses as fronts for a drug trafficking organization lead by Raúl Flores Fernández.
Houston is trying to return to normal and the Dynamo are returning to Houston. After a two-and-a-half-week layoff, the Houston Dynamo are back at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday with a match against Colorado, with proceeds going to Hurricane Harvey relief.
The Dynamo will have a number of promotions to support Houston’s rebuilding process.
Last Christmas, two young sisters and Borussia Dortmund fans received jerseys with the names of Ousmane Dembélé and Emre Mor on the back. A solid present if there ever was one. However, much to the dismay of Olivia (8), Emily (11) and Dortmund supporters everywhere, both of these exciting players left the club this summer with Dembélé making a move to Barcelona and Mor finding a new home at Celta Vigo.
There was no soccer this week at BBVA Compass Stadium, home to the Dynamo of MLS and Dash of NWSL. There were more important things to worry about in the United State’s fourth-largest city, inundated with up to four feet of water from Hurricane Harvey.
Instead of hosting Sporting KC on Saturday and the North Carolina Courage on Sunday, BBVA became a collection site for Harvey relief donations, an orange beacon to the ravaged city.
