Luis “Chapo” Montes has had a wild ride with the Mexico national team. If you’re a fan of Club León or Liga MX, you’ll know who the diminutive 5-5 midfielder is.
Montes has been a staple of Mexico’s top professional league since he made his debut in 2006 with Indios. He’s gone on to play for only three teams in his whole career and all in Mexico (he later made his breakthrough with Pachuca before transferring to León).
After claiming a FIFA Women’s World Cup winner’s medal, as well as the tournament’s Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards, there’s only one thing left for Megan Rapinoe to achieve this year: grace the cover of EA Sports’ upcoming FIFA 20.
It’s an idea that’s gaining steam, starting with a simple Twitter post from video game and entertainment media website IGN.
It was a day of high drama at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Semifinal action began with an extra time encounter between Senegal and Tunisia — decided by a calamitous own goal — and it continued through the evening with an Algeria-Nigeria clash that was settled at the final second of regular time.
Senegal has advanced to its first Africa Cup of Nations final in 19 years after defeating Tunisia 1-0 after extra time in Cairo, Egypt. Both sides had chances to seal victory in regular time with penalties, but the goalkeepers came up big to send the match to an additional 30. From there, it was a comedic own goal that proved the difference.
FIFA released its July 2019 rankings for women’s soccer and, obviously, the USWNT ranking remained No. 1. The Americans also set a new record in the process.

It’s with great sadness that our summer of soccer 2019 draws to a close. The USWNT lifted the World Cup, Brazil triumphed on home soil at the Copa América, Mexico reclaimed the Gold Cup and we’re into the final week of the Africa Cup of Nations. Unless you’re eagerly anticipating the ICC, our glorious summer is at an end.
The ratings are coming in from Sunday’s World Cup final between the USWNT and the Netherlands, and yup, they’re really impressive. Over on Telemundo, the game was the most-watched women’s match in Spanish-language history. The average total audience delivery was 1.6 million viewers, up 22 percent on the 2015 final despite the earlier start time. The game peaked at 2.03 million TV-only viewers towards the end.
