Stuttgart attacker Silas Wamangituka was booked for unsporting conduct on Sunday after refusing to convert his open goal opportunity against Werder Bremen in a timely fashion.

The 21-year-old had already given Stuttgart the lead in the 30th-minute from the spot, and he was gifted an opportunity to put the game on ice after a horrible mix-up between Bremen defender Ömer Toprak and keeper Jiří Pavlenka.

Wamangituka gathered possession with the clock reading 90:08, but the ball didn’t strike the back of the net until 90:17 despite the attacker facing an empty goal. 

It’s nearly a weekly ritual this season. There’s a big slate of Premier League matches on the weekend and NBC decision makers pick which matches go on TV and which matches are thrown into the abyss of streaming services. NBC then posts these spineless choices onto social media and I gawk at the hate-filled comments and replies.

This week, it’s the North London Derby and a Liverpool match that get the shaft, and as usual the fireworks followed.

Inter Milan’s squad that traveled to Mönchengladbach didn’t get much sleep Monday night and Tuesday morning. A group of Gladbach goons can be thanked for that after they launched fireworks and other pyrotechnics at 4 a.m. outside the hotel where the Milan players were staying.

To the surprise of nobody, Schalke lost again on Saturday in a pitiful 4-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The defeat extended the club’s winless run in the Bundesliga to 25 games. Tasmania Berlin holds the all-time winless record in the Bundesliga with a 31-game winless streak.

What’s more important: A statement in support of human rights, or a tribute to a fallen star? According to ESPN, it’s the latter.

The USWNT returned to the pitch for the first time in 261 days by beating the Netherlands 2-0 in a friendly on Friday. The replication of the USWNT’s historic win in the 2019 Women’s World Cup final showed that even having not played in eight months, this team is still the best in the world. 

Tuesday was a day of wacky celebrations to be sure. Myrto Uzuni mocking Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature celly was absolutely ridiculous. The question is, was Uzuni’s move as dramatic as this reaction to perhaps the easiest goal ever in the Polish Ekstraklasa?
