There are plenty of interesting teams to watch at The Soccer Tournament, but one of the most star-studded is certainly Team Dempsey (although USMNT legend Clint Dempsey only serves as the head coach in flip-flops).

On Thursday, they began play at the 7-on-7 tournament with a starting lineup that had Luis Robles in goal (three USMNT caps), Jermaine Jones in midfield (69 USMNT caps), Eddie Johnson out wide (63 USMNT caps) and Chris Wondolowski up top (35 USMNT caps). Jaime Lozano (34 Mexico caps) was on the bench.

The Soccer Tournament (TST) kicked off on Thursday and saw the U.S. Women open their tournament with a 5-0 defeat to Say Word FC.

The U.S. Women team coached by Mia Hamm is the only team consisting of just women on the roster and features household names like Heather O’Reilly, Kristine Lilly and more.

While most European leagues are reaching their gripping conclusions, MLS is still very much up for grabs with 16 matchdays completed. The table has taken shape, but anything is possible in America’s top flight. From last-minute equalizers to incredible displays of impotence in front of goal, there was something for everyone on Matchday 16. 

Brek Shea and Geoff Cameron announced the end of their professional careers at the beginning of May, but soccer is still part of their lives and will continue to be. In fact, both will be playing for Blade & Grass FC, one of the 32 teams at TST, the fascinating 7v7 soccer tournament that kicks off the summer.

The ability to choose is often taken for granted in soccer. With the increased prominence of dual nationals in recent years, fans are becoming used to seeing players pick which nationality they want to represent, like Yunus Musah and Folarin Balogun. What’s less common, however, is a player who, before turning 19, not only qualifies for four national teams but has already represented three of them.

The USMNT is cruising the U-20 World Cup and, after routing New Zealand 4-0 on Tuesday, got a spot in the tournament's quarterfinals.

It was a dominant performance from the US.

Owen Wolff scored a slo-mo 20-yard shot in the first shot on target for the Stars and Stripes and the team never looked back.

Anthony Hudson has stepped down from his role as interim manager of the U.S. men's national team and will be replaced by his assistant B.J. Callaghan while a search for a permanent head coach is underway, the U.S. Soccer Federation said on Tuesday.

Hudson, 42, was appointed interim manager in January but has decided to leave for a new opportunity. Previous manager Gregg Berhalter's contract expired at the end of 2022 shortly after he guided the United States to the last 16 at the World Cup.

Across the league, teams and players alike found ways to buck their trends of frustration while others gave frustration a chance.

I'll be honest, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about how we don't have promotion/relegation in the United States. I guess I've become numb to the discussion since it seems like it's never happening. But it's days like Sunday, with Everton, Leicester and Leeds dancing with the devil for the safety of 17th-place, when it's just unfathomable that we don't get to enjoy this spectacle stateside.

Luton Town are headed to the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history after the team, along with U.S. goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, defeated Coventry City 1-1 (6-5 on penalties) in the EFL Championship Play-offs final on Saturday.

Luton have done the unthinkable and have been promoted from Non-League football (outside the top four tiers) to the Premier League. Luton last played in the first division of England back in 1992 before it was rebranded as the Premier League.
