Taylor Twellman Discusses Becoming A Broadcaster, Growing MLS And That Epic USMNT Rant

There are many who remember Taylor Twellman for being a prolific forward for the New England Revolution, winning MLS MVP honors and the Golden Boot in 2005. These days, however, most people know Twellman as “the guy who’s always yelling about soccer.”

ESPN and MLS broadcaster Taylor Twellman recently sat down with former MLS players Bobby Warshaw and Calen Carr to talk about how he went from hating the media as a player to becoming one of the most visible soccer media members in the United States in an enlightening video released by MLS on Wednesday.

Clint Dempsey Quote

It is challenging but the more positions you start to play and develop in as a player, the better you get and the more adaptable a player you can be to more teams. It always different when you play with your back to goal, as opposed to running at defenders. It is a challenge because for a long time you might not get the ball, but when you do, if you can put it in the back of the net, then you did your job.

USWNT Raring To Go With Less Than 150 Days Until The World Cup

There’s just under 150 days until the USWNT kicks off its World Cup defense against Thailand at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims, France, and time is of the essence for Jill Ellis’ side. Currently, 27 players have been called out to the team’s January Camp taking place in Algarve, Portugal.

The USWNT will train there before marquee international friendlies against France (No. 3 in the world) on Jan. 19 and Spain (No. 12) on Jan. 22. Here are the first scenes from that camp, with Crystal Dunn, Julie Ertz and Megan Rapinoe mic’d up for your viewing pleasure.

Tyler Adams And Alphonso Davies Impress During Friendly Debuts With Leipzig And Bayern, Respectively

Granted this isn’t much, but there’s nothing else we can do until the Bundesliga returns from its winter break on Friday, Jan. 18, so these friendly matches will have to tide us over.

We can’t wait to see how Josh Sargent carries on with Werder Bremen after scoring two goals in his first three appearances, as well as how Christian Pulisic fares for Borussia Dortmund during his final four months at the club, but we’re equally as excited for the debuts of Canadian international Alphonso Davies at Bayern Munich and USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams at RB Leipzig.

We Wish Every Match Started Like This Friendly In Orlando

The Florida Cup is a relatively obscure exhibition held each winter since 2015 in Orlando, Florida. The teams involved aren’t always the best, but they’re recognizable, with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Rangers, River Plate, Corinthians and PSV Eindhoven having been involved in recent years.

This year’s Florida Cup features Ajax, Sao Paulo, Eintracht Frankfurt and Flamengo — plus a concert Saturday night from Brazilian star Ivete Sangalo at Orlando City Stadium.
