Monday Murmurs: Transfer News For The Week Of May 12, 2014

As the club season winds down in the next couple of days, it’s time to look ahead to the always entertaining transfer window. In a new installment at The18, we bring you Monday Murmurs! Every Monday we’ll look at the most important signings, rumors and all things transfer-related.

Diego Costa leaving for Chelsea

Jose Mourinho got his man. The Chelsea manager said he was desperate to sign a prolific scorer, and made his move early in the summer transfer window.  Skysports reported that Chelsea agreed to a £32 million deal with Atletico Madrid for striker Diego Costa. The deal is expected to be formally announced in June, after Costa’s La Liga championship bout with Barcelona and UCL clash with rival Real Madrid.

As Mourinho adds offense, he’ll lose defense. We’re still waiting for more confirmation on this one, as PSG may be trying to make a late run, but the England Times reported David Luiz will leave Stamford Bridge after the World Cup and join a depleted Barcelona back line. The Brazilian center back has reportedly agreed to terms, and the fee will be either £32 or £40 million.

Luke Shaw to Manchester United?

Differing reports are coming from over the pond. Primary reports of a Luke Shaw signing with the Red Devils are now battling reports of a possible Southampton rejection of Manchester United’s £27 million bid for the 18-year-old left-back. There has been no official report regarding the rejection, but the Daily Mirror and Daily Mail have said the deal is close to being done. His signing would assure the departure of current left-back Patrice Evra.

Patrice Evra to Monaco?

Only fitting we go into this rumor right after the last. But it seems, according to the Daily Mirror, that Monaco has offered the French defender a place back in France and in the Champions League. Evra will be out of a contract this summer and it is said he will wait until a Louis van Gaal appointment to make a decision on his future.

Barca boys on the Move?

Recent reports from the Bleacher Report have shown that Barcelona stars Alexis Sanchez and Xavi are both possibly in the market. For Sanchez, it is said that Juventus and Arsenal are the front runners and a move would cost around £20 million. Xavi, on the other hand, has been linked to not only the Gunners, but the two clubs from Manchester. This rumor seems on the unlikely side considering his relationship with Barcelona. But the Catalan club is trying to get younger and the 34-year-old Xavi showed some deterioration this past season.
