Amidst the failed performances of the women's national team in the Concacaf W Championship, Liga MX Femenil started a new tournament this weekend. And the top highlight of week one was a filthy backheel goal from Querétaro forward Edna Santamaría.
Edna Santamaría backheel goal vs Santos Laguna
Santos Laguna won the match 4-3 in a very entertaining game, but the conversation revolved around Santamaría's mischievous touch.
The play began when Leidy Ramos stole a ball on the right side of the field and then ran to the end line. Before crossing the line, Ramos sent a pass inside the 18, where Santamaría backheeled the ball and scored. Sly, but after watching the replay a few times, it was the best option she had available.
It was a beautiful goal for Santamaría, who was playing her first game for Querétaro, and a very significant one at the time because it put the team ahead 2-3.
Sadly, it wasn't enough: in injury time, Santos Laguna scored twice and got the win.
