Stay up or wake up? Here’s a plan for each U.S. time zone on how to watch USWNT vs. Sweden

When FIFA made the bracket for the Women’s World Cup, they did so assuming the United States women’s national team would top their group.

If that had been the case, then the U.S. would’ve been playing South Africa in the Round of 16 at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday. If they won that game the quarterfinal match vs. the winner of Spain-Switzerland would be on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.

FIFA tried to make viewing the Women’s World Cup for American fans easy, however the lackluster group stage games from the USWNT put a wrench in those plans.

How to watch USWNT vs Sweden Women’s World Cup game

  • Who: USWNT vs. Sweden in the Round of 16, loser goes home
  • When: Sunday, 5 a.m. ET
  • Where: Melbourne Rectangular Stadium (Melbourne, Australia)
  • TV/Stream: FOX, Telemundo, Universo, Peacock, FuboTV

Yes, you’re reading that time correctly. The game kicks off at 5 a.m. ET. Also, be sure not to be fooled when FOX says coverage begins at 4 a.m. ET.

Kickoff is at 5 a.m. ET. That’s all you need to know.

It’s quite an interesting time for kickoff as people’s plans on how to watch will differ depending on where they are in the U.S.

Here’s my recommended watch plan for all of you.

Eastern time zone people

This isn’t too shabby of a time. Pretend you’re getting up extra early for a Premier League game. The sun will rise just as the first half ends and that circadian rhythm will kick in quite nicely.

Get yourself some Folgers in that cup and make sure you go to sleep by at least 10 p.m. the night prior. The good news is that the game is on a Sunday so after the game finishes you can get yourself a victory breakfast (or stress eat from the loss) and lounge around for the rest of the day.

Central time zone people

Whoof. Four in the morning. Staying up this late isn’t an option for non-insomniacs. This will have to be a painfully early wake up.

I’d definitely vouch for making your alarm clock noise “4 AM” by 2 Chainz and Travis Scott.

Cancel your Saturday night plans because you can’t afford to be up late. If the game goes to extra time, then the sun will be up by the time things wrap up. Enjoy.

Mountain time zone people

We are the forgotten time zone and arguably have the weirdest kickoff time. A game at 3 a.m. on a weekend makes it possible to go the distance and stay up the whole night. Expect to get nothing done on Sunday.

If you do choose to get some sleep then clock in around four to five hours of sleep prior to kick off, groggily watch the game and then crash back to sleep as sunlight crests the horizon.

Pacific time zone people (And Mountain Standard time, looking at you Arizona)

Stay up late baby! It’s going to be a party. The bars will close shortly before kickoff; therefore, you’re destined for a night out on the town and then wind down with some USA-Sweden action.

Sure, the game will end around 4 a.m. but it’s not like you’ve never done a late night before. Get those drinks ready, the vibes high and have a great night. This will be a Saturday night you’ll remember years from now.

Alaska time zone people

I’m going to be completely honest, I’m not sure how you folks survive with the endless sun and all during the summer. I know very little about Alaska and I’m sure you guys have your routines to get through the days.

The game kicks off at 1 a.m. Plan accordingly however you Alaskans do.

Hawaii time zone people

It’s finally your time to shine Hawaii!! Watching European league games is practically impossible, and you never get to watch any big sporting events late at night. That ends on Saturday.

The USWNT vs. Sweden game kicks off at 11 p.m. in Hawaii! That is incredibly manageable for a Saturday night. Invite the friends over and have yourselves a watch party that people would be willing to show up for.
