PARIS - France kept their hopes of staying in the top tier of the Nations League alive as goals by Kylian Mbappé and Olivier Giroud secured a 2-0 home victory over Austria on Thursday.

Mbappé opened the scoring with a stunning goal before Giroud, who again showed coach Didier Deschamps he is more than a third-choice forward, sealed the world champions' win with a header.

The NWSL playoff picture became a little clearer Wednesday after four results brought every team to 20 matches played in the 22-game regular season. However, there's still everything to play for with the distance between first-place and sixth-place (the final playoff position) just five points.

Alex Morgan's San Diego Wave had been leading the NWSL Shield race for a majority of the season, but the Portland Thorns took pole position last night, and clinched a spot in the playoffs, after a 3-0 hammering of already eliminated Racing Louisville.

On Sunday, the University of Arizona welcomed UC Davis to Murphey Field in Tucson for a non-conference meeting between the 2-2-2 Wildcats and the 3-3-2 Aggies.

That game's lone goal was scored by Arizona freshman midfielder Sami Baytosh (her second of the season) in the 37th minute, as somehow, someway she managed to lob the goalkeeper from 15 yards out ... while sitting on the ground.

Lyon kept pace with rival PSG at the top of the Division 1 Féminine table by beating Soyaux 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

A fabulous surge of goals from Fulham shocked Nottingham Forest 3-2 at the City Ground on Friday night. Three goals from three different scorers in six minutes is massively impressive, especially considering none were scored by the Cottagers’ top scorer Aleksandar Mitrović.
