Atlanta United players received their MLS Cup championship rings during a private ceremony on Thursday. It’s kind of a big deal, considering Atlanta hasn’t had a major sports championship to celebrate in more than 20 years. 

In addition to players like Josef Martinez and Darlington Nagbe, plus club president Darren Eales, Five Stripes First Fan Waka Flocka was on hand and was awarded his own championship ring, because he played a big role in … I dunno, bringing awareness to the team I guess?

The 2019 USL Championship season began this past weekend with the league welcoming over 90,000 fans across 17 games, including a sellout crowd of 12,896 to watch New Mexico United’s opening match at Isotopes Park (that's more than the Chicago Fire and Colorado Rapids drew to open their MLS campaigns).

In all, five clubs drew more than 8,000 spectators for their opening matches, an extremely promising sign for the health of the league as it enters its ninth season.  

Son Heung-min is one of the most popular footballers in the world. A superstar in Asia and beloved in Europe, the 26-year-old Tottenham forward is at the top of his game right now with 16 goals on the season.

Just don’t expect him to settle down and get married anytime soon.

What amounts to too much partying? What amounts to not enough privacy? Should professional athletes’ social lives be used against them? Do videos of Neymar partying prove he’s a horrible person who will never succeed at the highest levels without Lionel Messi as his running mate?

As of March 3, it’s now only 96 days until the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off on June 7 with hosts France taking on South Korea at the Parc des Princes in Paris. With the date fast approaching, we can now feast our eyes on the official FIFA tournament posters for each of the nine host cities.

When the U.S. women’s national team lines up to play England in the SheBelieves Cup on Saturday, you won’t see the names of Morgan, Rapinoe and Sauerbrunn on the backs of the jerseys. Not that Alex, Megan and Becky will be missing, but the USWNT jerseys vs England will be displaying something more important than the surnames of some of the best players in the world. 

To honor Women’s History Month, the U.S. players will wear the names of women who have inspired them on the back of their jerseys.

Mesut Özil scored his fourth goal of the Premier League season in Arsenal’s fairly simple 5-1 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday. 

Özil’s strike opened the scoring in the fourth minute, having been played in by Sead Kolasinac. The German had only the keeper to beat, and he did so with relative ease. But his shot was anything but usual.

Everyone wants to be a rock star. 

We want to be Elvis, Prince, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page, Rami Malek, Mick Jagger, Ozzy Osbourne, James Hetfield or, fuck it, even Adam Levine's nipples. 

No one really wants to be a country music star.

But someone’s gotta do it.
