It's hard to say if Bayer Leverkusen knew they were gong to pick up a heck of a lot more fans after bringing in Mexican striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez from Manchester United, but that is what happened.

We can tell that's what happened because when the transfer was announced earlier this week Bayer Leverkusen's website actually crashed.

It seems to us that no team really understands how huge soccer is in Mexico until they bring aboard a Mexican player. Chicharito's transfer announcement garnered more than 50,000 likes on Facebook and more than 15,000 retweets. 

He was going through yet more hardship at Manchester United after struggling last season at Real Madrid. It seemed like de ja vu, only worse, because of the simple fact that he was back to square one, regressing. At Real Madrid he at least took one step forward by virtue of leaving Manchester United for a bigger club, which made his struggles understandable and eventual success more respectable. Struggling back at United made it seem like he had lost everything he had gained at the end of his stint at Madrid. 

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is moving to Germany. The Mexican striker never really clicked with manager Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, being sent on loan to Real Madrid last season, and is now headed on a permanent transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

Chicharito's ghastly performance against Brugge likely proved to be the last straw, as far as the Red Devils were concerned.

That was Javier Hernandez playing hero for Real Madrid in one of the biggest games of the year late last April, 4 months ago. 

West Ham have put in a bid for Manchester United striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, according to The Daily Star. The Star reported that the club have already had an 8.5 million pound bid rejected, and the new bid will be somewhere in the range of 12 million pounds.

It’s been a tumultuous few months for Javier Hernandez. At the turn of the year, Chicharito was on bench-warming duties at the Santiago Bernabau, seemingly unwanted by both his new employers in the Spanish capital as well as his paymasters back in Manchester.

Jorge Vergara, the owner of Chivas de Guadalajara, has said that he will do all he can financially to make sure that Javier Hernandez comes to Liga MX instead of the MLS, should the Mexican international leave Manchester United. 

Speaking to ESPN Mexico’s Raza Deportivo, Vergara had this to say on the possibility of such move.

Tuesday, in a Gold Cup warm-up against Honduras, Mexico forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez went down with a broken collarbone. 

Hernandez will be out for about four weeks and will probably miss the whole Gold Cup.

Mexico head coach Miguel Herrera recently came out stating that Javier Chicharito Hernandez could have been at the Copa America if it hadn’t been for some confusion with the Mexican Soccer Federation.

The highlight of Chicharito's Real Madrid career has to be the goal he scored against city-rivals Atletico Madrid during the second leg of the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

That strike in the 88th minute took Real Madrid to the semifinal against Juventus. Thanks to the hard work of their Mexican forward, Los Blancos had finally defeated their tough as nails hometown rivals.

With that strike, Chicharito had proven himself an asset to Real Madrid’s season, a season that saw him for the most part banished to the bench.
