Southampton fans (finally) have something to smile about after their side’s win over Everton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. The Saints have had a woeful start to the Premier League season, recording just one win and sitting in 16th place entering Matchday 8. The victory advances them to next round of the League Cup and gives them a boost that they will be hoping translates to EPL play. As for Everton, the loss means the Toffees are yet again dumped out of the Cup at the hands of top-flight opposition.

Beginning with the World Cup and carrying into the first month and a half of the new club season, it’s hard to argue against Eden Hazard’s standing as the most influential attacker in football (and the most fun to watch).

When the time comes, the 2018 MLS MVP award will almost certainly go to Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez. However, it says everything about the impact Wayne Rooney has had since arriving at D.C. United back in July that he’s even being mentioned in the conversation. 

Before Rooney arrived, United had played 14 matches while totaling only 11 points. After United crushed the Montreal Impact 5-0 at Audi Field Saturday, the club has now played 15 matches with Rooney and recorded 27 points.

The enthralling Chelsea-Liverpool match was nearing an end with the home side inching closer to an impressive win on Saturday at Stamford Bridge. Then the Daniel Sturridge goal vs. Chelsea happened and the world exploded. Or, at the very least, the internet exploded.

How much longer can this go on?

Surely the Glazers are asking themselves this very question as they’ve now watched Manchester United stoop to its joint worst ever start to a Premier League season just days after losing to a Championship side in the League Cup. 

Chelsea vs. Liverpool was already the biggest match of the weekend in England (perhaps all of Europe outside of Madrid). But after Wednesday’s clash between Eden Hazard and Jordan Henderson, we cannot wait to see the Blues and Reds go at it again on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool is the lone club with a perfect record in Premier League play, boasting six wins from six. Chelsea (along with Manchester City) is right behind with five wins and a draw. That in itself makes Chelsea vs. Liverpool one of the biggest September clashes in recent memory.
