After shining in the Europa League and playing well off the bench against West Ham, Gareth Bale was handed only his third Premier League start of the season against Burnley on Sunday and responded with a lethal display that included two goals and an assist for Harry Kane.

It took all of 68 seconds for Tottenham to open the scoring after Bale read Son Heung-min’s intentions out wide and stole behind the Burnley backline to convert from close range.  

LEICESTER, England - Arsenal revived their hopes of playing in European competition next season after goals from David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pépé helped them to a 3-1 win at Leicester City in an entertaining Premier League clash on Sunday.

The result lifted Arsenal two places up to ninth on 37 points from 26 games while Leicester stayed third on 49 points after suffering a second setback in three days following their Europa League elimination.

The father of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker drowned in a lake near his holiday home in southern Brazil on Wednesday, local police said.

José Becker, 57, had been swimming at a dam on his property when the accident happened on Wednesday afternoon, Doroteo Machado Filho, a police inspector in the town of Lavras do Sul, told Reuters. No foul play was suspected.

Liverpool issued a statement asking for Alisson's privacy to be respected.

Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott scored his fifth goal of the season for Blackburn in the first half of Wednesday's game against Watford. The strike brought Tony Mowbray's Rovers within one as the game went into halftime before Watford won 3-2.

Marcelo Bielsa's continuity in the Leeds United bench is on hold, after the Argentine coach himself addressed the issue with some caution.

"The first thing I want to point out is that it seems to be the chairman who is offering me an extension and I am delaying it; it could be interpreted as the club having more desire for me to stay than me and that is not the case," the 'Loco' pointed out at a press conference.

LONDON — Already in a league of their own when it comes to sustainability in sport, innovative English soccer club Forest Green Rovers will trial a kit made from coffee bean waste on Saturday.

Rovers, owned by 'green energy' entrepreneur Dale Vince, will road test the prototype in their League Two clash against against Colchester United.

The club in leafy Gloucestershire has used a strip made from bamboo for two years, but the brains at kit partner PlayerLayer believe they have found a better alternative.
