Forty-one — that’s all that really mattered for Bayern Munich in its season finale against Augsburg on Saturday. Sure, there were send-offs for beloved club players like David Alaba, Jérôme Boateng, Javi Martínez and coach Hansi Flick, but what Die Roten really wanted was to get Robert Lewandowski a 41st goal to break the Bundesliga single-season goals record, which had stood since 1972.

The goal finally came with the final kick of the match.

After putting three past RB Leipzig in Bundesliga action last weekend, Borussia Dortmund managed that feat again in the 2021 DFB-Pokal Final on Thursday, except they did it in just 45 rip-roaring minutes at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. 

But just like the league match, Leipzig gave Dortmund everything it could handle in the second half. 

With two matches remaining in the Bundesliga season, Eintracht Frankfurt stayed in top four contention thanks to an 85th-minute equalizer from Ajdin Hrustic against Mainz on Sunday.

12th-place Mainz had taken the lead at the Waldstadion through Karim Onisiwo, but Hrustic provided an unbelievable response only five minutes from time.

MUNICH - Bayern Munich celebrated their record-extending ninth consecutive Bundesliga title on Saturday with a 6-0 demolition of Borussia Mönchengladbach and a hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski, who edged closer to a 49-year-old scoring record.

The champions had sealed the title before kickoff following RB Leipzig's 3-2 defeat at Borussia Dortmund earlier on Saturday.

One way or another, an American will win the DFB Pokal this season. Gio Reyna made sure of that in emphatic fashion, scoring the first two goals as Borussia Dortmund spanked Holstein Kiel 5-0 in the semifinals on Saturday. Reyna, 18, became the second U.S. international to score in a DFB Pokal semifinal after Thomas Dooley did it in 1990 with Kaiserslautern. 

Josh Sargent played his heart out for more than 120 minutes, and when it was over his compatriot Tyler Adams was there to console him. Adams was an unused substitute, but his RB Leipzig side beat Sargent’s Werder Bremen 2-1 in the DFB Pokal semifinals, with Emil Forsberg scoring the winner in the 121st minute.

While fans of the European game will rightly be keeping an eye on the nail-biting title races in the top divisions of France and Spain, an exhilarating fight for promotion is coming to a head in Germany's second division.

With Bochum seemingly comfortable in first place on 60 points (first and second secure automatic promotion), the six teams below are dueling it out for second and third-placed finishes. It is incredibly high-stakes as unlike England's Championship, there is only one playoff place up for grabs as opposed to four.
