USMNT's Ghana scouting report: We both have a lot of work to do to meet in the semis

World Cup history decrees that if the USMNT and Ghana qualify for the same tournament, they must play each other. It happened in 2006, 2010, 2014 and then both mutually agreed to miss 2018. In 2022, the two nations couldn't possibly meet until the semifinals, so that's what's going to happen.

Uruguay’s Federico Valverde was 6 inches away from scoring the goal of the tournament

Uruguay and Real Madrid star Federico Valverde almost had the highlight of his career on Thursday during his nation’s 0-0 draw vs. South Korea. With the score tied at in the 89th minute, Valverde ripped a shot from over 25 yards out that nearly brought the house down.

Antonio Rüdiger’s goofy running form will never not be funny

Japan shocked the world and defeated Germany 2-1 in the team’s opening World Cup game on Wednesday to get their 2022 tournament on track. My personal favorite moment of the match was German defender Antonio Rüdiger sprinting with his hilarious running form.

Kylian Mbappé proves he’s human after skying an easy goal to the 30th row

Kylian Mbappé was his silky brilliant self on Tuesday during France’s 4-1 victory against Australia. That is except for one moment in the 45th minute when a shockingly uncharacteristic Mbappé miss took place.

‘Me and the coach's daughter? Not a problem,’ says Spain's Ferran Torres

DOHA - Spain winger Ferran Torres faces big challenges at the World Cup in Qatar but his relationship with the daughter of national team coach Luis Enrique is not one of them, according to the Barcelona player.

"Not at all," Torres told a news conference on Sunday when asked whether he felt pressure because of the relationship. "I think the coach and I, we know how to differentiate between when it's family and when we are manager and player. I think we have to get on with it in a natural way, just that and we're getting along fine."

Pittsburgh advances in NCAA soccer tournament by playing dead

When put in a situation of extreme adversity, there's no better plan of action than feigning death. I've read all the leadership books and they all agree that playing possum is the most effective form of self-help. Just wait enough time and all your problems will leave you alone.

If you're talented enough, it's also an effective strategy out on the pitch.

David Beckham and Peyton Manning end the ‘football or soccer’ debate in star-studded Lays commercial

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup set to begin the commercials are beginning to appear. The title for best 2022 World Cup commercial is up for grabs and right now Lays is a leading candidate. On Tuesday the chip (or crisp) giant released a two and a half minute Peyton Manning vs. David Beckham, soccer vs. football commercial.

There are so many cameos in this ad it’s hard to keep track.

Ted Lasso puts up billboards to support the USMNT

America’s favorite fictional soccer coach is back at it again. Ever the motivator, we definitely should have seen this coming. Following the USMNT’s roster release, people have spotted billboards with heartwarming messages popping up across the country, and AFC Richmond’s mustachioed manager is the one behind it.

In the hometowns of players and coaches, on a classic yellow background akin to his famous “BELIEVE” sign, Ted Lasso has made his feelings known through the generous and kind words for which he has become so beloved.

“Thanks Gregg Berhalter you idiot!” Reporter rants after Ricardo Pepi snubbed from USA roster

A sports director for a local Texas news station gave a hilarious tirade at United States men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter after Ricardo Pepi was snubbed from the World Cup roster.

On Wednesday Berhalter’s USA World Cup roster was revealed with the shocking exclusion of teenage striker Pepi. Instead, Haji Wright was selected. KTSM 9 News sports director Colin Deaver wasn’t having it at all.
