Minnesota United Opens New Stadium With Epic Tifo, Gets Incredible Housewarming Gift From NYCFC GK Sean Johnson

The new Minnesota United stadium, Allianz Field, is finally open. And the Minnesotans opened it in style.

Allianz Field is the new pinnacle of soccer stadiums in the U.S. At $250 million, it’s the most expensive soccer-specific stadium in the country’s history. It seats 19,400, has 96 beer taps (is that enough?), lights up at night and is absolutely gorgeous.

In the first game in the new stadium, the Loons unveiled an epic tifo that summed up the feelings of a city that’s waited a long time for this.

Missing March Madness? The U.S. Open Cup Is Ready To Fill Your Bracket Needs

The 106th U.S. Open Cup will kick off next week with 84 teams from MLS to the amateur ranks dreaming of lifting the trophy. Last week we looked at where the participants this year are coming from and the announcement that the entire tournament will be available on ESPN+. On Wednesday, the first 38 clubs to enter the competition found out their opening-round draw.

Alberth Elis Is Changing The Future For Kids In Honduras

Honduran footballer Alberth Elis grew up in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where his way of life was no where near what it is now. The conditions in Honduras today hinder the growth and education of children due to a lack of resources. Not to mention the difficult living conditions these children face having to be alone a majority of the time while their parents work, as well as being in an impoverished area with violence and areas that are not secure for them to be wandering the streets by themselves.

MLS Future Stadium Renderings War Continues — FC Cincinnati Battles Back

It's a new week, which means another round of "Who wants to see a future MLS stadium?" Miami is building a brand new stadium to house Inter (see lawsuit) Miami CF for a few seasons until its final home is built. Last week, Sacramento brought out images of what its new home would look like if it gets one of those shiny MLS expansion tickets. Now it's FC Cincinnati's turn.

Mark It On The Calendars: Seattle Sounders Vs. LAFC Twice In April

If you are one for Power Rankings, then you're likely seeing Los Angeles FC and the Seattle Sounders sitting at the top of everyone. If Power Rankings aren't your thing, well the Western Conference table makes it clear. Both clubs are undefeated and early favorites for the MLS playoffs — if not the MLS Cup. So we are in for a treat when these two battle on April 21 at LAFC's home, Banc of California Stadium — and then again on April 28 up in CenturyLink Field.

The ESPN+ Value Keeps Growing With Addition Of U.S. Open Cup

Founded in 1914, the U.S. Open Cup holds a special place in American soccer, both from a historical perspective and it today's ambition for the country's future in the sport. For the past few years, the competition has been available at varying levels across YouTube, the Open Cup website or club websites. But on Friday, ESPN added another layer to its commitment to U.S. soccer.

Rooney Sees Red For Shocking Challenge As Carlos Vela, LAFC Trounce D.C. United 4-0

FOX had a rare soccer doubleheader on Saturday, for once not relegating its soccer coverage to FS2. The national network aired Der Klassiker between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, followed by the anticipated matchup between LAFC and D.C. United, the top teams in their respective conferences in MLS entering the weekend.

Zlatan (Goal, Assist) Cheered At BC Place And Vancouver Players Weren’t Happy About It

It hasn’t been a good start to the season in Vancouver. Still without a win, the Whitecaps welcomed the LA Galaxy to BC Place on Friday night.

The match actually started well for the home side, which was immediately awarded a penalty kick. But left back Ali Adnan’s awful Panenka attempt failed and the Canadian fans began to turn on their team.

Last Hope For MLS In Concacaf Champions League Destroyed By Monterrey In Semifinal First Leg

Sporting KC was the last hope.

After four other MLS sides were tossed aside in embarrassing fashion — three to Liga MX sides — Sporting was the only squad north of the Rio Grande left in the 2019 Concacaf Champions League.

They won’t be around much longer.

10 Old School MLS Commercials That’ll Make You Wonder How The League Survived

Back in 2001, Major League Soccer almost folded. After six seasons, millions of dollars in operating losses and with two clubs on the verge of contraction (the Tampa Bay Mutiny and Miami Fusion), the league was really only kept afloat by the vision of Lamar Hunt (who owned the Columbus Crew, Kansas City Wizards and Dallas Burn in his lifetime).
