The 2023 Women’s World Cup kicked off with an unexpected upset as as co-hosts New Zealand stunned Group A favorites Norway with a 1-0 victory in front of a record 42,137 crowd at Eden Park in Auckland.

This was the first time that the New Zealand women’s national team (or men’s team) have won a World Cup game.

On a day that should have been highlighted with celebrations began with tragedy. A gunman shot and killed two people in the same city that hosted the Women’s World Cup opener, Auckland.

Gold Cup semifinal: USMNT player ratings vs. Panama

It's over. The USMNT's Gold Cup, B.J. Callaghan's reign, Matt Turner's blessed existence in penalty shootouts... it's all over. The only constant that remains is Cristian Roldan's inability to put the ball in the back of the net.

Panama shocked the U.S. on Wednesday night in front of over 30,000 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego by triumphing 5-4 in a shootout, this after 120 minutes produced a 1-1 stalemate.

Why not Guadeloupe? The case for the French overseas department to win the Gold Cup

One of the best subplots to follow throughout the course of a Concacaf Gold Cup is the evolving power rankings of the nations looking to end the United States and Mexico's hegemony of the region.

And with the USMNT sending a B Team under the direction of an interim manager and El Tri in disarray with their own interim boss, this summer looked as good a time as any for the likes of Canada and Jamaica to strive for glory.

139th-ranked Saint Kitts and Nevis reach Gold Cup group stage for the first time

History was made Tuesday night at DRV PNK Stadium, the future home of Lionel Messi, as Saint Kitts and Nevis defeated French Guiana in a penalty shootout to advance to the Concacaf Gold Cup group stage for the first time ever.

The Sugar Boyz — ranked 139th in the world — got themselves to the Gold Cup qualifying prelims in Fort Lauderdale by topping their group in Nations League C, but they had to get by Curaçao (a 2019 quarterfinalist) in the semifinals last Friday (which went to a penalty shootout) before Tuesday night's dramatics against French Guiana.

Senegal put FOUR past Brazil as Sadio Mané scores a brace

Brazil's legendary national team has played 89 different countries over the course of its storied history but only two nations have managed to face the Seleção without tasting defeat. Norway, surprisingly, has a record of two wins and two draws against Brazil (including a famous victory at the '98 World Cup), and the other nation actually beat them on Tuesday: Senegal.

All signs point to Canada winning the Concacaf Nations League

In the grand history of Concacaf, there's never before been a tournament where our gladiators have entered the arena and spectators have murmured amongst each other: "See them there? Them's Canada. They're going to slaughter everyone."

At least not since Craig Forrest was standing between the sticks.

USA U-20s self-destruct in World Cup quarterfinal defeat to Uruguay

The United States men's U-20 team wanted to make history Sunday by advancing to the World Cup semifinals for the first time in program history, but after looking like tournament favorites while rattling off four straight victories, scoring 10 goals and conceding none, the U.S. dream quickly became a nightmare against Uruguay in the quarterfinals.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma concede twice in final minutes to blow lead and miss top four finish

AS Roma suffered a late collapse to lose 2-1 to Fiorentina on Saturday, effectively ending any hopes Jose Mourinho's side had of a top four finish in Serie A.

Roma are sixth in the standings on 60 points from 37 games. They are four points behind AC Milan in fourth, who face Juventus on Sunday. Atalanta, in fifth with 61 points, play Inter Milan later on Saturday.

Both Roma and Fiorentina began the match at a slow pace as they look forward to cup finals in Europe.

Luton Town are headed to the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history after the team, along with U.S. goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, defeated Coventry City 1-1 (6-5 on penalties) in the EFL Championship Play-offs final on Saturday.

Luton have done the unthinkable and have been promoted from Non-League football (outside the top four tiers) to the Premier League. Luton last played in the first division of England back in 1992 before it was rebranded as the Premier League.

Come for the train, stay for the goals: Two USL Championship underdogs down MLS opposition in midweek US Open Cup fixtures

As the tail end of the nation’s oldest and most storied soccer tournament approaches, two second-division teams continue to linger. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Birmingham Legion both welcomed MLS opposition into their humble abodes for the US Open Cup Round of 16 and won more than just the hearts of those watching.
