FIFA is to introduce new regulations to protect the rights of women players, including mandatory maternity leave, world soccer's governing body said on Thursday.

The reforms have been put forward by FIFA's Football Stakeholders Committee (FSC) and will go to FIFA's Council next month for approval.

While many players in Europe are already protected by employment law in their given countries, FIFA says its aim is to create "new global minimum standards" for female players all over the world, given the rapid emergence of new clubs and leagues globally.

Alex Morgan just started getting into the squad at Tottenham following her return to fitness after giving birth to her first child in May. Now she’ll have to impress a new boss after Spurs’ two co-head coaches were fired on Thursday.

There will be no fans in the stands. The U.S. squad last played March 11, when it beat Japan 3-1 to win the SheBelieves Cup in Frisco, Texas.

Two months after her move was first announced, Alex Morgan finally made her first start for Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday against Bristol City, a week after her Spurs debut. Unfortunately for the American superstar, her first start didn’t last long.

It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for this moment, but it finally came Saturday. No, I don’t mean the U.S. presidential election was called; I mean the Alex Morgan Tottenham debut.

Alex Morgan came on as a sub in the 69th minute in Tottenham’s Women’s Super League match with Reading on Saturday. It was the American’s first appearance on the pitch in more than a year after she gave birth to her first child in May. 

On Friday, USA TODAY Sports revealed that sporting power couple Julie (USWNT, Chicago Red Stars) and Zach Ertz (Philadelphia Eagles) had pledged to provide 2,500 meals to local food banks for every touchdown scored over the Eagles next three home games at Lincoln Financial Field.

That’s a hellish Sunday afternoon for supporters of Everton Football Club.

On the women’s side, the 2020 FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium was lost after a dramatic 3-1 extra time defeat to Manchester City. City’s Sam Mewis opened the scoring with an unmarked header off a corner kick in the 40th minute.
