Do Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe Deserve Spots On The USWNT Olympic Roster This Summer?

The USWNT just completed an expected-but-still-impressive showing at the 2021 SheBelieves Cup, winning all three matches to claim the tournament title for a fourth time in six years. While the exhibition is a good barometer of some of the world’s top national teams, it’s also one of the best chances to evaluate talent ahead of a big summer competition. With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics postponed to 2021, the question is: Who will make the USWNT Olympic roster this summer?

Estados Unidos Vapulea A Argentina Y Se Lleva La Copa SheBelieves

Ageless Rapinoe, Lloyd Inspire USWNT To Blowout Win Of Argentina

Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd are both over 35 and showing no signs of slowing down. While both will face stiff competition to make the 18-woman roster for this summer’s Olympics, they both showed they’re still among the best in the world in a dominant first half against Argentina on Wednesday.

Rapinoe, 35, scored twice and Lloyd, 38, added a third as the USWNT won its fourth SheBelieves Cup by strolling to a 6-0 victory over Argentina on Wednesday night in Florida. The U.S. won all three matches in the competition, becoming the first team to win it in back-to-back years.

Racing Louisville Is Immediately One Of The Best Away Days In The NWSL

Historically speaking, there’s only ever been one correct answer to the question of a dream away day in the National Women’s Soccer League. As well as producing the sort of football that’s landed two NWSL championships, the Portland Thorns boast the division’s best atmosphere with an average attendance (we have to go back to 2019 to look at such things) of over 20,000 at beautiful Providence Park.

But I believe Portland has been usurped for three reasons: views, horse racing and bourbon.

No One Assured Of Spot At Olympics, USWNT Coach Says

The roster for the Tokyo-bound U.S. women's squad seeking to reclaim the Olympics gold medal that eluded them in 2016 is far from set in stone, national team head coach Vlatko Andonovski said on Tuesday.

Olympic rosters feature 18 players instead of the usual 23 that typically travel to a tournament and Andonovski said he had yet to lock in any player.

When asked how many of the roster spots for the Tokyo Olympics remain open, Andonovski told reporters during a video call: "Right now, 18, but we are getting closer."

Christen Press Deserves To Start After Leading The USWNT Over Brazil

The sternest test of the USWNT’s 2021 SheBelieves Cup was ultimately passed on Sunday as Christen Press’ 11th-minute goal was enough to overcome Brazil before Megan Rapinoe’s late insurance strike at Exploria Stadium in Orlando.

Vlatko Andonovski made four changes to the side that labored to a 1-0 victory over Canada last Thursday, including Press for Rapinoe at left wing, Alex Morgan for Carli Lloyd at striker and match-winner Rose Lavelle for Catarina Macario in midfield.

Watch: Finnish Announcers Go Nuts Over Incredible Last-Second Winner To Reach 2022 Euros

Finland is heading back to the Women’s Euros for the fourth time thanks to one of the best tournament-qualifying goals you’ll ever see. This Finland goal vs Portugal gave the home side a wild 1-0 victory in the final seconds.

Finland and Portugal entered Friday’s penultimate Euro qualifier at Helsinki Football Stadium knowing a win for either side would secure a place in England 2022. A loss would likely mean going through the playoff to earn a berth at next year’s European Championship. For 90 minutes, it appeared neither side would find the breakthrough.

SheBelieves Cup Could Decide Who Makes Olympic Roster — And Who Doesn’t

The SheBelieves Cup will serve as a proving ground for U.S. players vying for a spot on the national women's soccer team's Olympic roster, head coach Vlatko Andonovski said on Wednesday.

The four-times World Cup winners play Canada on Thursday in the first of three games in less than seven days, a tough schedule for players looking to earn a trip to the Tokyo Games.

Chelsea Clinton, Jenna Bush Hager Invest In NWSL Club

Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush Hager are buying a stake in the National Women's Soccer League's (NWSL) Washington Spirit, along with Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Dominique Dawes, the team said on Wednesday.

The daughters of former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are among more than 30 people in the new investor group, which also includes former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.

Women’s Champions League Last 16 Draw Looks Tastier Than Ever

Seven-time champion and holder Olympique Lyonnais will play Brøndby in the last 16 of the Women's Champions League, while Chelsea will face Atlético Madrid following Tuesday's draw.

Manchester City will meet Fiorentina, Barcelona entertains Fortuna Hjorring and Paris Saint-Germain has been drawn against Sparta Prague.

Last season's finalist Wolfsburg faces Norwegian side LSK Kvinner, while Bayern Munich faces Kazakhstan's BIIK Kazygurt.

The two-legged last-16 ties will be played on March 3-4 and 10-11.
