2014 was a tough year for Barcelona. They went trophyless, which is shocking by their standards and given the talent they have. They finished second behind Atletico Madrid in La Liga, got beaten by Los Colchoneros in the quarterfinals of Champions League and finished second to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.
But, hey, it's the holidays and the entire Barcelona organization is celebrating in style. First, FC Barcelona released a video wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The video includes the likes of Luis Suarez, Leo Messi, Neymar and many more as they enjoy the festive season with plenty of fooling around behind the scenes. Barcelona has actually created an advent video calendar on their YouTube channel, which is full of funny videos of Barcelona stars getting ready for the holidays.
Next, Neymar released photos of himself with a dyed-white beard for the holidays. Apparently he has given the honor of "Soccer Jesus" to Messi and will settle for Old Saint Nick.
Barcelona will enter 2015 trailing rival Real Madrid, as they are currently a point behind Los Merengues. Neither team has any more matches until the new year.
Barcelona has plenty of talent to take back at least one of the titles that avoided them last year. We would be shocked if Luis Enrique's team went trophyless again in 2015. Real Madrid will obviously be their main competetor for the two Spanish trophies, while the Champions League trophy will be just as difficult, if not more difficult to lift. But would you bet against Neymar, Leo Messi, Luis Suarez, and Andres Iniesta? We didn't think so. But should Cristiano Ronaldo keep the pace on scoring goals, this could be a different story. The Portuguese star is on pace for...63 GOALS THIS LA LIGA SEASON. That would break Messi's current record of 50 goals in the 2011-2012 season. But Barcelona did not take home the title that year. Real Madrid did. Will the script repeat itself but in reverse in 2015? We think so.
