A play-by-play announcer had an all-time reaction on Wednesday when Stanford’s men’s soccer team defeated Notre Dame 3-2 with a goal from midfield and one second left on the clock.
The time in college soccer isn’t like the pros as the clock counts down and the game ends when time expires. This means that buzzer-beaters are possible on the pitch.
On Wednesday Stanford and Notre Dame were competing in the first round of the ACC men’s soccer tournament and tied at 2-2 in the final seconds. Redshirt sophomore defender Dylan Hooper had the ball at midfield and launched a prayer from 70 yards away.
What came next broke play-by-play announcer Kevin Danna.
Stanford soccer announcer reaction to goal vs. Notre Dame
That “OhhHHHHhhhhooohHH” from Danna was about as reasonable as a reaction as you could expect.
Danna said on Twitter after the game that the game-winning goal took his voice away.
What a goal.
Stanford advance to the next round and will face Clemson on Sunday, Nov. 10.
