Forget about the World Cup buses that will be taking national teams around Brazil in two weeks with slogans painted on their sides. Check out the plane that the Brazilian national team will be flying in and out of Brazil's unfinished airports (low blow, we know). Brazilian artists and identical twins, Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo (a.k.a. “Os Gemeos” or "the twins"), painted the plane and used more than 1,200 cans of spray paint over the course of a week to cover the Boeing 737.
“Besides the enormous challenge, for we painted in a totally unconventional medium, the concept of this work is to give unrestricted access to our art," said Os Gemeos. "We depicted the Brazilian population with all its varied and colorful ethnicity, bringing this work to the skies and airports in Brazil for the period of two years.”
For those wondering, the wings were left untouched due to “security concerns”.
Now, it may look like a bunch of Simpsons characters, but that doesn’t take away from the idea. After all, maybe they can sell the aircraft for good money to compensate for the massive debt the country has endured during preparation for the tournament. According to Boeing’s site, a sale of the plane could net Brazil around $80 million.
"Everyone has thought about walking on clouds. And this is only possible with a plane and faces painted on it,” artist Otavio told Sports Grid.
