Real Madrid are hoping that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will agree to let Eden Hazard go in exchange for Gareth Bale. This deal would bring back the lost art of bartering.
Mourinho might want to start working on his negotiation skills, because he’s known as a bit of a pain to work with. With a rumor of a deal in the works we decided to compare the two midfielder to see if one side is actually getting the better end of the deal.
Yes, Gareth Bale was one of the most expensive transfers of all time when Real Madrid acquired him for 91€ million from Tottenham Hotspurs.
On the other hand Hazard only cost Chelsea 31€ million. But monetary value isn’t the only factor in this trade and past praise does little to convince Mourinho the deal would be worth it for Chelsea. Hazard is an essential part to the current squad, but by no means is he irreplaceable.
Over at Real Madrid there is no doubt that Bale hasn’t quite lived up to the 91€ million price tag, but besides Cristiano Ronaldo, who could? Still, he’s done well for himself moving up the ranks at Tottenham and then on to the starting line-up at Real Madrid. Considering he’s up against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, James Rodriguez, Isco, Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira in the midfield, he does have one attribute that really sets him apart from the rest of the midfield and that’s his blazing speed.
Eden Hazard’s season at Chelsea is smashing the competition in the domestic league, helping his team to a 10 point lead with 13 goals and 8 assists in the 2014/15 Premier League season. With Bale coming in just behind Hazard’s stats with 13 goals and 7 assists in the La Liga this year.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho knows he now has the upper hand in negotiations with Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti. With Bale at Real Madrid and Hazard at Chelsea, Mourinho is unlikely to take the first offer from the former Chelsea boss at Real Madrid. If Mourinho could move past his own ego he might actually realize this is a damn good trade for him.
Bale brings a great passion to the game. Hailing from Wales, Bale might be happier a little closer to home in England. (Mourinho would likely scoff at this remark, “happiness, what does that have to do with soccer?” If you ask me, everything.)
At Tottenham, Bale seemed happy. Starting off in eft back and moving up the ranks into the midfield he finally found his stride. Just look at some of the amazing things he accomplished: Scoring 3 goals against Inter Milan, and moving up from left back to become the player he is today.
With Bale’s speed on the wing Chelsea could return to their counter attacking ways, and if Fabregas stays healthy a solid supply of lofted passes are likely to come his way. For once a strait trade of one player for another seems fair.
Hazard would be just as beneficial to Real Madrid as Bale would be for Chelsea. Small passes and intricate play on the wing are what Real Madrid need. Modric supplies some of that, but when he’s injured they’re left without an inside man. Someone who has quick feet and enough composure to hold the ball instead of immediately counterattacking.
It seems like a good deal for eith side and these two players, while drastically different are equally needed at either club for different reasons.
