A couple months ago, we wrote about Belarusian striker Dzimitry Koub’s epic goal celebration that came after his 86th minute equalizer for Trakai FK against the Lithuanian-league-leading Zalgiris. Following Koub’s goal, he ran past all his teammates into the empty stands behind the corner flag and applauded his own goal.
It appears that MLS players are taking notes. This past weekend, Dom Dwyer of MLS squad Sporting Kansas City scored his 12th goal of the regular season and his celebration was just as over the top. Dwyer dispossessed Chicago Fire defender Patrick Ianni and easily went on to bury the goal. After the score, he continued to run towards the end line where he grabbed a phone from a cameraman and proceeded to take a selfie with Sporting KC fans and teammate Soony Saad. Unlike Koub, Dwyer was handed a yellow card for his actions, but the team did tweet out the picture and it was a cool moment for the fans.
