Imagine a world where Chelsea FC is owned by a shady billionaire who is probably involved in organized crime. Wait, that world already exists? OK, imagine that, but instead of a Russian oil baron the shady bilionaire is a Mexican drug trafficker. I am referring here to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the boss of the Sinaloa Cartel who was arrested last week.
Apparently after El Chapo's arrest Mexican authorities found evidence that Guzman was looking into buying London-based EPL club Chelsea FC. There are a few problems with that plan, although money is not one of them (Guzman's net worth is estimated to be near $1 billion.
One of the problems is Chelsea aready has an owner, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, whi isn't too keen on selling at the moment. Another problem with the plan is the Premier League's policy that only a "fit and proper person" can own a team. Presumably a drug trafficker would fail that one, although anything's possible.
Safe to say a world with El Chapo at the helm of an EPL team would be one that was at the very least wildly entertaining.
Too bad Sean Penn didn't ask El Chapo about it.
