These Are Lionel Messi's Greatest Comebacks Of All Time

Over the years, we have been privileged enough to see some unforgettable Lionel Messi comebacks.

The Argentinean star has lead both his club FC Barcelona and Argentina to some epic turnovers that nobody even dared to dream of.

There is something about comebacks. They're just so dramatic, so nerve wrecking.

There is simply nothing better than overcoming all the odds and a hefty deficit to make the taste of glory even sweeter.

Here is a compilation of Messi's greatest comebacks in his career playing for club and country.

Barcelona vs AC Milan- UCL 2013

Barcelona had lost 2-0 against AC Milan in the first leg of the 2013 UEFA Champions League round of 16.

In the first half, 39 minutes were enough for Messi to set the score at 2-0 and therefore leveling Milan's lead.

The game ended with a scoreline of 4-O with goals by David Villa and Jordi Alba.

It was an historic night for Barcelona as they became the first team ever to overcome a 2-0 first leg deficit.

BARCELONA VS PSG, UCL 2016-17

Perhaps the most astounding comeback in UCL history. Barcelona were trailing by a 4-0 deficit after being completely destroyed by PSG at the Parc des Princes.

Even for Barcelona, it looked impossible to recover from such a catastrophic result in the first leg.

But we are talking about Barça here, and thus nothing is off the table.

Early in the first half, Luis Suárez, an own goal by Layvin Kurzawa gave signs Barça would at least go down swinging.

Later, a Messi penalty set the score at 3-0 and made the world dream of the impossible.

Even after Edinson Cavani scored a seemingly lethal away goal for PSG, Barcelona and Messi did not quit.

Neymar scored an unbelievable free-kick and yet another then scored a penalty to draw Barcelona closer to the heroic comeback.

One goal was missing. Sergi Roberto scored and consummated the unthinkable task.

No team had ever overturned a 4-0 first leg deficit in the Champions League and it seems quite unlike it will happen again.

Unless of course it's Barcelona led by Lionel Messi.

REAL MADRID VS BARCELONA, La Liga 2016-17

Leo Messi lead Barcelona to one of the most epic comebacks against arch-rivals Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabéu.

At one point, Messi was left on the ground bleeding after he got an elbow to the face by Marcelo.

Real Madrid got the lead with a Casemiro goal.

But shortly after Messi scored a brilliant equalizer.

Ivan Rakitic gave the 1-2 lead to Barça with an absolute stunner and then Sergio Ramos was sent off after wildly tackling Messi like he always does.

However, 'Los Blancos' bounced back and James Rodríguez scored what seemed in the moment like a late equalizer.

One man down, Real Madrid were not satisfied and kept pushing for the win.

However, Barcelona caught them off-guard and, after a brilliant run by Sergi Roberto and an accurate cross by Jordi Alba, Messi -who else?- set the definite score at 2-3 and gifted Barcelona an unforgettable victory.

 ECUADOR VS ARGENTINA, 2017

OK, this doesn't exactly match the criteria of a comeback, but it kind of is. Last World Cup qualifiers, Argentina were on the brink of elimination and desperately needed a win in the last match to secure a spot in the world championship.

You would think visiting an already eliminated Ecuador wasn't that big of a deal for Messi and company, but in truth it was.

Argentina had struggled greatly and had not managed to win vital points along the way.

Argentina's fears were fueled after Romario Ibarra gave Ecuador a 1-0 lead very early in the game.

However, Di María provided an assist for Messi in the 12th minute.

Seven minutes later, Messi scored his second goal of the night for 'La Albiceleste' and gave his whole country a renovated sense of hope.

Nevertheless, the scenario was still risky as a goal from Ecuador would snatch away the World Cup dream for Argentina.

Leo Messi was on the field, however. In the second half, 'La Pulga scored his third goal with a brilliant strike.

It was a hat-trick that propelled Argentina into the World Cup and has the nation dreaming of lifting the trophy.
