Sunday marked the 21st time in Luis Suárez’s six-year Barcelona career that he’d hammered a ball flush in the air — be it a volley, scissor or overhead kick — and into the back of the net. Frankly, there’s no one better on the planet with this demanding technique. Here’s that strike against Sevilla.
With Suárez as the catalyst, the always wonderful Barcelona YouTube channel published a video showcasing the club’s top five overhead kicks. The compilation includes two from Ronaldinho and one each from Suárez, Pedro and Rivaldo.
I think the Barcelona account is right to not include any sort of countdown metric. These would all win the AT&T MLS Goal of the Year, and there’s no higher praise than that.
