It’s been irregular, but we’ve been treated to some pretty revealing interviews with Lionel Messi of late. Perhaps the 31-year-old Argentine is growing more comfortable with it all — the successes, the failures, the incessant limelight — and increasingly not giving a shit while turning his focus on a growing family and the tail end of his professional career, but whatever the reason, we’ve been given a much clearer image of Messi the person over the past two years.
Without waxing lyrical about a man I really don’t know, I think a lot of Messi’s true persona can be gathered from his response to the following question from the interview (an exclusive with Unisport) above: “When it’s all said and done, how would you like Lionel Messi to be remembered?”
A champion? The greatest ever? A wonderful person?
Not exactly. Lionel Messi says, “I don’t know, I don’t think about it at all. … In the end everyone will remember and think of you what they want — and they’re free to do so.”
Messi’s on some Dostoyevsky shit.
