Wayne Rooney Ends Playing Career To Become Full-Time Derby County Manager

LONDON — Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, regarded as one of the best English players of his generation, has called time on his illustrious playing career after being named as manager of second-tier side Derby County on Friday.

The struggling Championship club said in a statement that the 35-year-old had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

To Stretch Or Not To Stretch Before Playing Soccer

Over the past 20 years, static muscle stretching has gotten a bad rap. Once considered an essential part of any sport or exercise warm-up, static stretching has now been removed from the picture almost entirely.

This move followed extensive research showing that static stretching — where we stretch and then hold the muscle at an extended length for seconds or minutes — can reduce muscle strength (reflected in things like lifting weights), power (for example, jump height), running speed, balance and other capacities for a short time after the stretching.

Miami Fires Diego Alonso, Paving The Way For Beckham Buddy Phil Neville

England Women's team manager Phil Neville is in talks with Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer club owned by his former Manchester United teammate and friend David Beckham, who sacked manager Diego Alonso on Thursday.

Sue Campbell, the English FA's director of women's football, told the BBC Neville would lead the Team GB soccer side at this year's Tokyo Olympics unless he took the Miami job. Neville's England deal ends in July.

Alex Ferguson Says It’s His Duty To Raise Awareness On Dementia

Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has said it is his personal duty and the game's responsibility to address the problem of dementia that has impacted several former players.

The issue of dementia in the professional game was sparked by the death of England's Nobby Stiles in October and there have been calls for the issue of head injuries in sport to be given further attention. Stiles and many of his 1966 World Cup winning teammates had been diagnosed with dementia before their deaths while United great Bobby Charlton also disclosed his diagnosis recently.

PSG Hires Former Club Captain Pochettino To Replace Tuchel As Coach

French champion Paris Saint-Germain has named former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino as its new head coach after sacking Thomas Tuchel, with the Argentine signing a deal until June 2022, the Ligue 1 club said on Saturday.

Pochettino, who played for PSG as a defender in the early 2000s and also captained the side, has been out of a job since being dismissed by Spurs in November 2019, a few months after guiding the north London club to the Champions League final.

Clash Of Styles Looms As Bielsa Takes On Mourinho

Eleventh-place Leeds United takes on Tottenham Hotspur, which could have gone joint-top as little as two weeks ago but has now slipped to seventh, on Saturday.

West Brom's Heinous Own Goal Is An Analogy For The Club's Bleak Season

I wasn't in the West Brom changing room before the club's match against Leeds, but I can imagine that Sam Allardyce's pre-game speech went something like this:

"OK lads, we were remarkably good on defense against Liverpool on the weekend. That was one of the best attacks in Europe, and we held them to one goal. That was just brilliant lads.

With Slaven Bilić Gone, Which EPL Manager Will Be The Next To Face The Axe?

Last week, West Brom fired Slaven Bilić after just seven points in 13 matches to begin the season, making him the first Premier League manager to be relieved of his duties this season. The timing is pretty impressive, considering that five Premier League managers had been fired by this time last season.

Mikel Arteta Gives A Stats Lesson That Doesn't Quite Add Up

2020 has been a rollercoaster year for many teams, but few clubs have experienced as many ups and downs this past year as Arsenal.

Last season's FA Cup champions are currently winless in their last seven matches and sitting 15th in the Premier League, which would be the worst finish since 1975-76 for the North London club.

The Gunners have five losses and two draws in their last seven matches, putting Mikel Arteta's status as Arsenal manager under heavy scrutiny. Arteta's response to this criticism was, while interesting, not entirely logical.
