SYDNEY - American striker Madison Haley scored twice as Sydney FC snapped a three-season losing streak in Australian championship finals with a 4-0 win over Western United to claim a record-equalling fourth A-League Women's title on Sunday.

Haley opened the scoring in the fourth minute and added her second goal in stoppage time as Sydney added to their 2009, 2013 and 2019 triumphs and equalled Melbourne Victory's record as four-times champions.

Christian Benteke scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a sensational bicycle kick and streaking D.C. United pulled away to a 3-0 victory over visiting Charlotte FC on Saturday night.

Taxiarchis Fountas also scored from the penalty spot for his second goal in as many games as D.C. (4-4-2, 14 points) won its third straight and its first at home since the opening weekend of the season.

Real Madrid bounce back from Girona defeat with a Benzema hat trick

MADRID — Karim Benzema scored a first-half hat trick as Real Madrid recovered from a disappointing midweek loss at Girona by beating lowly Almeria 4-2 at home in LaLiga on Saturday.

With six games remaining, second-placed Real maintained their slim title hopes by moving up to 68 points, cutting Barcelona's lead to eight points. Barcelona host sixth-placed Real Betis later on Saturday.

LONDON — Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at home in the Premier League on Saturday after Ivan Toney and Josh Dasilva scored late second-half goals to leave the visitors a point above the relegation zone.

The result leaves Forest in 17th with 30 points, above 18th-placed Leicester City who have a game in hand. Brentford are ninth with 50 points.

It was Brentford who applied the early pressure as Forest keeper Keylor Navas and his defensive line stood firm to deny the home side who struggled in the final third in the first half.

LAFC's Kellyn Acosta scores at 90+1' to salvage draw vs. Union in Champions League semis

After conceding a late penalty that allowed the Philadelphia Union to take the lead, Los Angeles FC's Kellyn Acosta scored in second-half stoppage time as the teams played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Chester, Pa., in the first leg of a CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series.

The second and final leg of the total-goal series will be played Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Chelsea sit just 10 points above relegation zone after sixth straight EPL game without a win

LONDON — Brentford condemned Chelsea to a fifth defeat in five games in all competitions under interim coach Frank Lampard on Wednesday as an own goal by Blues' captain Cesar Azpilicueta and a strike by Bryan Mbeumo handed the Bees a 2-0 win in the Premier League.

The loss left toothless Chelsea 11th in the Premier League table, stumbling towards possibly their worst campaign since the 1993/94 season - when they finished 14th under Glenn Hoddle - despite their new U.S. owners' huge outlay on players.
