RENNES, France - Paris Saint-Germain suffered their first defeat of the season when they were beaten 2-0 at Rennes on Sunday to drop their first Ligue 1 points of the season.

Rennes won thanks to goals by Gaëtan Laborde and Flavian Tait each side of the interval to end PSG's eight-game winning run in the league.

PSG, only previously beaten in the pre-season Trophée des Champions by Lille, stayed top of the standings with 24 points, six ahead of second-placed Lens who beat Reims 2-0 on Friday. Rennes moved up to seventh on 12 points.

MADRID— Former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez heaped more misery on his old club as Atletico Madrid claimed a 2-0 LaLiga victory over the Catalans at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

First-half strikes from Thomas Lemar and Suarez were enough for the champions to secure all three points and heap pressure on the visitors' beleaguered boss Ronald Koeman.

Chelsea momentarily sits at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Southampton 3-1 on Saturday. The victory wasn’t as straight forward as the final score suggests as the Blues found the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute.

Manchester United and Everton shared the points at Old Trafford on Saturday after drawing 1-1. The moment everyone is talking about is the Andros Townsend SIUUU celebration after the Everton forward leveled the game at 1-1.

The goal came off a fantastic Toffee counterattack that featured Fred getting bullied, a sublime finish and some Townsend shithousery. The celebration that followed was perfect.

Gianluca Busio scored his first ever Serie A goal for Venezia on Friday with a 92nd-minute dagger to deny Cagliari its first win of the season. The Busio goal vs Cagliari wasn’t the prettiest, but hey, they all count the same.

Aleksandar Mitrović's phenomenal start to the 2021-22 Championship season continued on Wednesday as he buried Swansea with a first-half hat trick. The hulking Serbian now has 10 goals in as many games this campaign, along with three assists, for third-placed Fulham. 

The 27-year-old has endured tough times recently, often finding himself on the bench last season as Fulham was relegated from the Premier League — this despite the fact that his 26 goals in 2019-20 propelled the West London side to the top flight in the first place. 

Zenit St. Petersburg sits in third place in Champions League Group H after Wednesday's 4-0 stomping of Swedish side Malmö, level on points with Chelsea. Zenit opened group play with a 1-0 defeat to the Blues, its first loss of the season, on Sep. 14. 

Sergei Semak's team coasted to victory in its second UCL outing of the season, already up 2-0 when Malmö's Anel Ahmedhodžić was sent off for a handball after 53 minutes.
