Neymar seeks to take record for most international assists from… Landon Donovan!?

UPDATE: Neymar did record an assist vs. Peru meaning that he has tied the record.

American fans were rather surprised this week to learn that United States men’s national team legend Landon Donovan holds the all-time international record for most assists with 58.

Listen, we knew he had quite a few assists for the USMNT, but we don’t think many people knew that he had more than any man in international soccer history.

Landon Donovan’s USL team San Diego Loyal will be forced to fold at end of 2023 season

The San Diego Loyal, a United Soccer League club owned in part by soccer legend Landon Donovan, will cease operations after the 2023 season, the league announced Thursday.

The franchise rights will be transferred "in the coming months," per a league news release.

The action is being taken because a "viable near- and long-term stadium solution in the market did not materialize" in the San Diego area, the league said.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame inducted its 2023 class and a belated member of the 2022 class with U.S. team members Landon Donovan and Hope Solo among the inclusions Saturday in Frisco, Texas.

The full list of athletes and contributors honored included Donovan, Solo, DaMarcus Beasley, Lauren Cheney Holiday, Kate Sobrero Markgraf, Jill Ellis and Slavisa "Steve" Zungul.
