Standing over a free kick from 22 yards out during Toronto FC’s preseason friendly against Club America in Mexico City, Sebastian Giovinco looked up to see a three-man wall, defenders on either post, the goalkeeper stationed dead center and four more players scattered in front of goal to deter any other angles. No matter.

The Atomic Ant rifled one into the top-right corner, giving the defender on that post zero chance (maybe a slim chance of being decapitated). There’s simply no stopping the 31-year-old Italian. 

Major League Soccer and Liga MX are in talks to play a match every year between the champions of the two leagues, according to Steven Goff of the Washington Post. A Liga MX vs MLS championship would be just another chance for the Mexican league to flex its muscles at the expense of its northern neighbor. 

Cubo Torres has officially ended his MLS odyssey and returned to Mexico. The Mexico international scored 36 goals in 97 appearances for Chivas USA ('member them?) and the Houston Dynamo. He's headed to Pumas, currently at the top of the Clausura table.

Jurgen Damm is not having a good 2018. Just weeks after burning his face in a fireworks accident, the speedy Tigres winger was caught on video being escorted out of an El Pollo Loco in handcuffs.

24-year-old Englishman Ravel Morrison appears to be finding his feet in Mexico after arriving at Club Atlas on loan from Italian side Lazio last August. The former Manchester United prodigy had a stop-start beginning to life in Liga MX, but he’s now scored three goals in his last three appearances for Atlas.

On Sunday, January 14, Morrison opened his Clausura account with a stunning free kick against Pumas. 

Club America has issued a statement regarding the latest boneheaded actions of attacker Darwin Quintero after the Colombian international attempted to smash a football at the back of ESPN reporter Marcelino Fernandez’s head during training.

After scoring only three goals in his last 29 appearances for America, it should come as no surprise that the 30-year-old missed the target. Las Aguilas were actively shopping Quintero before the start of the Clausura season, and his latest piece of work isn’t going down well at the club.

In 29-year-old Mexican midfielder/right back Efrain Juarez, the Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired one of the greatest prospective films of all-time. Like any great movie, Juarez’s story starts at the beginning. 

The native of Mexico City won the 2005 U-17 World Championship with El Tri (alongside the likes of Giovani dos Santos and Carlos Vela) while on the books at Pumas, facilitating an ill-fated stint with Barcelona’s B team. He then resurrected his young career by returning to Mexico to play for Pumas, helping his club to the 2009 Clausura championship.
