Jürgen Klopp explains why he’s leaving Liverpool at the end of the season

LONDON — Jürgen Klopp stunned the world of football on Friday when he announced he would stand down as Liverpool manager at the end of season, saying that after more than eight hugely successful years in charge he was running out of energy.

The German, who led Liverpool to the League Cup final on Wednesday and is hugely popular with the fans, told the club's hierarchy in November that he would end his eight-and-a-half year stay at Anfield after this season.

Assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz are also leaving the club.

The Athletic’s Tom Bogert has shared one of the craziest transfer stories in a long time. Major League Soccer reportedly denied a $13 million transfer between FC Dallas and Russian club Spartak Moscow for USMNT striker Jesús Ferreira.

It’s been reported that the 23-year-old striker wanted the move to play in Russia’s capital and FC Dallas were prepared to accept the offer from Spartak Moscow.

Eden Hazard reunites with Swansea ball boy he kicked over a decade later

After 11 years it appears the beef between Eden Hazard and former Swansea ball boy Charlie Morgan has been settled.

A rewind back to 2013 sets the scene of the two crossing paths for the first time. With Chelsea trailing 2-0 on aggregate in the final minutes of a League Cup match, Hazard wasn’t a fan of Morgan’s timewasting tactics.

The ball had gone out for a goal kick and Morgan took a little too long grabbing the ball for Hazard. The now retired Belgian took the ball by force and kicked Morgan who was just 17 years old at the time.

Gio Reyna in loan talks with Nottingham Forest to escape Borussia Dortmund’s bench

A Gio Reyna Nottingham Forest loan move could be on the table as the United States men’s national team attacking midfielder seeks playing time.

Reyna has seen miniscule action with Borussia Dortmund this season as manager Edin Terzic has opted to use basically anyone not named Reyna. The 21-year-old American has only started one Bundesliga game for Dortmund in the 2023-24 campaign and is only used as a late substitute.

Reyna’s next destination could be a completely new kind of challenge as he’s in talks with a loan move to Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest.

USMNT’s Jesús Ferreira spoils Inter Miami’s preseason fun — scores winner at Cotton Bowl

Fans that traveled to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, on Monday for a preseason fixture between Inter Miami and FC Dallas likely went to the game to see Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The only goal they would see was from Jesús Ferreira assisted by Paul Arriola.

A night that was advertised with some of the world’s biggest names was beautifully stolen by two USMNT players. Incredible.

In the third minute of play Arriola and Ferreira silenced any Miami fans in attendance and gave the Dallas faithful a priceless moment.

Cade Cowell made his long-awaited debut with Liga MX club Chivas on Sunday against powerhouse Tigres UANL at the rainy Estadio Universitario.

The 20-year-old forward started the game on the bench and was substituted onto the pitch in the 63rd minute following Tigres’ opener, making quite an impact for the rojiblancos on the left flank.

Cowell was constantly in one-vs-one positions, taking advantage of space, and creating a handful of chances for his club in their effort to put the game level.
