The United States opened U-20 World Cup play with a frustrating 2-1 loss to Ukraine in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, on Friday. However, despite holding 67 percent of possession and registering 10 shots, Ukraine scored the game-winner off a corner kick in the 51st minute. 

FIFA Fails In Bid To Expand 2022 World Cup To 48 Teams

Despite president Gianni Infantino’s last-ditch visit to Kuwait in an attempt to coerce the nation into co-hosting the 2022 World Cup with Qatar in order to expand the field from 32 to 48 teams, FIFA has now admitted failure in its expansion plan. 

The next World Cup will remain a 32-team affair taking place between Nov. 21 and Dec. 18 solely in Qatar.

Martino Omits Carlos Vela, Chicharito, Héctor Herrera From Preliminary Mexico Gold Cup Roster

Tata Martino announced a 29-man, preliminary Mexico Gold Cup roster on Tuesday and a few big names were left off the squad.

Carlos Vela, Javier Hernandez, Héctor Herrera and Jesus Corona were all omitted from Martino’s team ahead of friendlies against Venezuela and Ecuador to warm up for the Gold Cup. The roster will be trimmed to 23 before the start of the Gold Cup on June 15 against Cuba.
