For any of us of a certain age, we all remember where we were when the space shuttle Challenger broke apart right after liftoff. Unexpectedly, however, a piece of that ill-fated mission has — 30 years later — made it to Earth’s orbit.

A soccer ball had been on the space shuttle because of Ellison Onizuka. He had brought it with him because his daughter was a soccer player at Clear Lake High School (CLHS) in Houston, Texas. After the disaster, the soccer ball was found floating in the ocean with other pieces of the wreckage.

The ninth regular season of the W-League is coming to a close as the top teams will play in the W-League semifinals this weekend.

Borussia Dortmund and Gabon National Team striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dressed a little different from his contemporaries at the African Player of the Year gala. Aubameyang, who won the award last year, showed up in street clothes, apparently because his luggage got lost.

A surreal occurrence in the Rwandan Premier League has led to a ban of all witchcraft by the country’s football association. While the following was one of a number of incidents which preceded the ban, none are more bizarre than what happened in a Rwandan Premier League match between Mukura Victory and Rayon Sports.

With Rayon Sports losing 1-0, one of their players, Moussa Camara, was captured on film appearing to place a small object against his opponent's goalpost. 

Video replay made its first appearance in the world of football at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan. We all appreciate FIFA for at least willing to experiment the replay system and see how it would work, but it’s fair to say that escalated quickly.
