Longest-Tenured EPL Coach Axed By Burnley Weeks Before End Of Season

Burnley sacked manager Sean Dyche, the Premier League club said on Friday, ahead of a tight end-of-season run-in as it looks to avoid relegation.

Burnley has struggled this season and sits in 18th place in the standings, four points from the safety zone. But the decision was unexpected, given Dyche's track record of maintaining the Lancashire club's status in the top division on a relatively modest budget.

He was the longest-serving English top flight manager having been in charge for nine-and-a-half years.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Giovanni Reyna has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a muscle and tendon injury, the Bundesliga club said on Sunday.

We apologize in advance for completely ruining your weekend vibes. Young American Gio Reyna is hurt, again. The 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund starlet pulled up injured less than two minutes into his start against Stuttgart on Friday, just weeks after returning from a five-month stint on the sidelines with another injury.

Reyna left the pitch in tears after feeling something go in his right hamstring on his first touch of the night while playing a give-and-go with Thorgan Hazard. The USMNTer was able to walk off under his own power — visibly limping — but was clearly distraught.

BOGOTA/LAGOS — Colombian food vendor William Abella had been counting on the World Cup 2022 as an opportunity to offset his losses from long COVID-19 lockdowns.

When the national team plays, his small corner shop and snack bar in central Bogota usually turns into a sea of yellow as football fans wearing the squad's official shirt gather to drink and chat, lifting beer sales by up to 80%.

But like many small traders in footballing countries that unexpectedly failed to qualify, his hopes for bumper business from fans cheering on their side have been dashed.

That’s all changed in the weeks since Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, with Abramovich’s assets frozen and Chelsea forcibly put up for sale. Now there are reports saying Abramovich was poisoned while representing Russia in peace talks.
