Wednesday's Champions League Group F match promises to be an exciting one, as Dortmund and Lazio have scored nine and eight goals, respectively, through the first four games of group play.
Dortmund, second in scoring in the Bundesliga with 21 goals, was beaten 3-1 by Simone Inzaghi's side in the opening game of group play but has not looked back since. Favre's men followed up that result with three consecutive victories and clean sheets and now lead the group with nine points. A victory on Wednesday would see either side secure qualification for the round of 16, while a draw would also do for both depending on the result in the group's other fixture.
Dortmund has won six of its last eight games since its Match Day 1 loss, outscoring opponents 21-7 in that spell, but dropped points in a defeat to 15th-placed Cologne this past weekend. The German side is well-placed to secure passage out of the group stage for the seventh time in its last eight Champions League campaigns.
Prior to a 3-1 defeat to Udinese last weekend, Lazio had enjoyed an eight-game unbeaten spell. Inzaghi's side has been strong away from home this season, losing just once on the road. Lazio will be without Senad Lulic, Vedat Muriqi and Silvio Proto for the trip to the Westfalenstadion.
Favre and Dortmund are still missing Marcel Schmelzer and Dan-Axel Zagadou through injury, while starting fullbacks Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Meunier are also doubts. Real Madrid loanee Reinier also misses out following a positive Covid-19 test. Erling Haaland has scored 17 goals in just 14 games this season, including six in four Champions League appearances, the first of which was Dortmund's lone goal in the reverse fixture.
