Who will be the Apertura Championship 2015 in Liga MX? The draw is set for a dramatic conclusion to a great season in Liga MX. Table-toppers Pumas take on Copa Libertadores finalists Tigres in the final of the Apertura Championship. Both teams deserve to be in the final and all we can say is that the two final matches will have great football on display!
The road to the final has been a straightforward one for Los Puma de UNAM. They’ve had a great regular season as they finished top of the table with 35 points, only losing 4 times in the regular season. Their home record has been incredible with only two defeats so far this season at home, their most recent one coming at the hands of Club America in the semifinal. They suffered greatly to make it to the final due to that loss at home in the 2nd leg. After a dominate 3-0 win in the first leg against 12 time league winners Club America; Pumas nearly exited the tournament by letting Las Aguilas score three goals to their one, which brought the score to 4-3 on aggregate favoring Pumas, but it proved to be too little too late for America. Pumas managed to hold on to that 4-3 aggregate score line and clinched a spot in the final.
UNAM goal scorer Ismael Sosa has been leading the line for Pumas with 10 goals so far this season. He’ll have to be in sharp form to win the final for his team.
As for Tigres, they have had a busy 2015. The club spent big to bring in the likes of Andre Pierre-Gignac, Javier Aquino and Jurgen Damm. With that came a successful Copa Libertadores run, where they lost against Argentina’s River Plate in the final. They also managed a decent run in the Apertura regular season, finishing in 5th. Even though they finished in 5th, they were clearly one of the strongest teams in Liga MX this season and they continued to make that clear during the Apertura playoffs.
They also have the French phenomenon Andre Pierre-Gignac in their ranks. This man has been a goal-scoring machine for the Club. His displays for Tigres have even been recognized by the French national team. The club is also being led by the impervious Tuca Ferretti who successfully led El Tri through a difficult transitional period between Miguel Herrera and Juan Carlos Osorio. He is a manager that shouldn’t be underestimated. Tigres managed to secure their place in the final with a 2-0 aggregate win over Toluca.
It’ll be a ferocious battle between two sides known for their passionate fans and their feline mascots. Don’t miss the two legged Apertura Championship 2015. First match will take place Thursday, December 10th and the 2nd leg will take place on Sunday, December 13th.
