Chivas de Guadalajara faced off against Club America in Mexico’s biggest rivalry on Sunday. And while few will remember this Super Clasico for its 1-1 score line, many will never forget the goal that America’s Paul Aguilar scored, and almost everyone will remember how he celebrated.
At first, we lost a little faith in Aguilar after his first touch took the ball about 10 yards away from him, but little did we know that he had simply given himself a perfect runway to charge up for an absolute thunderbastard of a shot.
…As for that celebration, we have no words. It vaguely looks like a dance celebration we have seen in FIFA, but Aguilar has added his own flair to that classic. It’s like some weird variation of a chicken, twerking, and a high stepping country jig. If only the remainder of the match displayed as much creativity as that celebration.
The goal was a bright spot in a lackluster game. Both teams struggled to create quality chances, playing the game out mainly in the midfield. Even a nifty equalizer by Aldo de Nigris was spoiled slightly by some shoddy goal keeping.
As for the tie, a splitting of the points leaves Chivas at the top of the table and America at 7th, tied with Toluca on points but trailing in goal differential.
